Autocross

This past Sunday I attended a Corvette club autocross with some members of my Universitys racing team. Wow, what a blast! There was some very sweet Corvettes out there varying from just off the showroom floor (seriously, one had temp plates) to highly modified non-street legal. We set up the autocross course in the morning and then ran it most of the day. We had our race car out there and did about 21 laps with it with a few different drivers. I got to do 3 laps in our race car (see pic at bottom). There was also a late model Cadilac that did the course that beat the times of most of the vettes. It pulled 0.9 g's which was measured by an onboard meter. After lunch I rode in a corvette with slicks with a very good driver. From the start he was very fast and took all the corners like nothing then it was through the slaloms and then a straight away to the finish. The whole time he was talking about the turn ahead and what to do, he was very relaxed. The next ride I got was from a Vette that had been clocked at around 250 on a track in Florida. This vette has also competed in the Pikes peak race. It had a full cage and was a PITA to get into. It had an aero package on it and had been tuned in a wind tunnel. It was really fun, this one had very fast acceleration and was really fast speed toward the end on the straight. After we crossed the line he braked hard to come to a complete stop, as per the rules of the day. Overall it was a very fun day.

Here is my teams 2004 car. Right now we are designing the 2005 car and production will start soon.

We use a Honda F4i motorcycle engine. 600cc with a restrictor the size of a penny. 0-60mph in 3.5 sec. We dont know how fast it goes, thats not what it is built for. Guess around 150mph. It has 6 speeds and we usually only get up to 3rd gear on a fast course

LOL They are a mechanical engineering project done at universities around the world. Check with the University of Utah(closest to you I guess), they built one for the same competition as the one above was.

It depends on each universitys policy. Here the University keeps it. We have cars from 97,98,00,01,03 and 04
