Factory Amp?
So I just got my new head unit and have it all installed. Everythings great it turns on theres just a minor problem, I dont have any sound....
Now I bought an amp bypass kit but i was wondering if that was really it and if there was a way to see if i actually had the amp without taking off that whole back panel. Any help is much appreciated i cant go without my music

You have the amp. All pre-98 Explorers do. It's pretty easy to get the panel off. You have to either bypass the amp, or run a power wire, and remote turn on to the harness behind the head unit.

OK so could you try that again for an audio newbie? I have the amp bypass kit so should I risk it and try it myself not knowing what to do really? Or pay someone to do it?

I'd look into pulling the panel. There is a thread on it in the audo forum "rear panel removal" or something similar. Or you could search for "amp bypass". You need a larger Torx bit to remove the seatbelt anchor. After that is a few screws, and some clips, and the panel is off. It's not that difficult, and shoulndn't take all that much time. Oh, and Welcome to the Site

Thanks =D. So now i have the bypass hooked up and the back panel back on but Im not sure where to run the wires to the head unit. i noticed it goes under the carpet undoubtably to the front of the car but im not sure how that goes. Should i get one of those ford explorer books that would show me how to wire it or is there an easier way?

Wires run to the HU? I assumed they just bypassed the amp and sent the HU signal through the factory wires. If I knew you had to run them, I would have just recommended rewiring the door speakers.

Had the same exact thing happen to me just this past week when I installed my new CD player in my truck. However, when I installed it, there was a distinct spark, and I didnt have the pre-amp wires re-configured to fit my CD Player, so I took it to my local car audio place and had them do it for me.
