Aftermarket Reverse Lights?

Hey my reverse lights are out, and my mechanic sed its gonna be $85 for a new reverse switch..well instead of shoveling out $85 bucks. I'd just install some aftermarket reverse lights, to a switch and just turn em on when needed. Wanted to know who makes em? Where can I get em? and How much? Also has anyone done this to there X if so mayb can u give me ur 2 cents...Thanks

Anthony

not sure if ny does inspections... but its actually illegal to not have the reverse lights in the housings on your truck... and aux. lights are just that.. not supplemental.....

kc makes some.... lots of companies actually make some... what do you use the truck for? daily driving? or offroading or what? becasue that will determine what and where you can safely mount an extra set of lights....

You need to fix your Reverse lights first. Like Jim said most states require your reverse lights to come on automatically when your transmission is shifted into reverse. After fixing them you can install rear lights (from many manufacturers).. You can wire the new lights into the stock reverse lights with a relay and dash toggle switch. With the dash switich in the off position nothing happens, but in the On position the new lights will come on with your stock reverse lights.

85 for a new switch?! i dunno about the automatics but on my 5spd it's just screwed into the transmission and the harness plugs into it. take you 10 minutes max to change it out.

Sounds like a good idea, that way you won't blind people when you're backing out of a parking space or something. I can't see when backing up in a nonlit area at night.

Yeah places like that.
Ford, push come to shove.

It should be just like Doug said. It either will bolt in or wist in with a wire harness comming out.

Good luck and let us know how it pans out.
