Come on out for a good time! See the potluck thread for getting in on the Saturday night Potluck. Bring a dessert, salad or appetizer, I'll be bringing enough meat for all who sign up!

[b]When: January 14-16, 2005 (MLK Holiday)
Where: Truckhaven, Adjacent to Salton City, CA
Contact: Rick Horwitz ab7fh@yahoo.com 623-388-0419 Cell: 602-510-3382
Required Gear: Equipment

Truckhaven is a huge playground for off-road vehicles. There are trails for everyone from mild to wild. This is a great place to test your driving abilities as well as the capabilities of your Explorer. You can see the fun we had last year by checking out our Trip Report

Over the years the majority of particapants camped at the Truckhaven base camp. There are NO facilities available. Camping is primitive with no water, toilets or showers available. If you have a porta potty bring it. A 5 gallon bucket with a plastic bag will work well Bring everything you will need. Everyone is also requested to bring firewood to add to our campfire. The more we have the warmer we'll be because the nights can get COLD in January!!

Saturday night we will be having a potluck dinner with a twist. Everyone should bring their beverages, but also bring a side dish or desert to share with all. You do not have to bring enough for everyone, but at least bring something. The potluck has been a lot of fun and very tasty in the past!

Bring your own cooking supplies if you can or you can probably share someone else's grill if you don't have one.

Weather conditions in January usually consist of warm days and cool to cold nights, rain can be present at this time of year and high winds are always possible. Come prepared!

Hotel Accommodations For Truckhaven 2004
Here is a list of hotels in Indio, Salton Sea and Borrego Springs.
Sandy and I stayed at the Palm Canyon Resort before and thought is was adequate and the price was reasonable.
If you want Class and you have the cash, the La Casa Del Zorro is the place to go.
Here is a site for Borrego Springs where you can also check out the prices and what the other places look like.
One other thing I'd like to mention is October thru June is the peak season around there and alot of "Snow Birds" frequent this area, so don't wait too long if you are looking for a room.

I only wish i could go, but there's no way the X will be ready for truckhaven in a month. Nor likely that I would be allowed to leave the state to go "camping" again so soon. Perhaps next time.

Is this run in conjunction with CORVA's 1/15-16 annual Truckhaven event?

At the same time not in conjuction with it. They have there setup a little ways away from where we usually setup. They do there thing we do ours and from the 3 trips I have done I cant remember having problems with traffic with them on the trail. However when I group of theirs decided to drive through the middle of our camp I wasnt to thrilled about that.

If I am in town I plan on being there for the run. Dure it will be nicer then Ohio or North Carolina where I should be working then.

Only if you bring wood to burn.

We might have two fires - one for the people who brought wood, and the fire for the people who didn't bring any wood.
