maintenance how-to's???
hey all -
i'd like to do a mini-tune up on my 2001 Sport with 53k miles. I was thinking about putting in new plugs and wires, and a new cap/rotor. does anybody have a detailed how-to for these items? i'm a car novice, most complex thing i've done under the hood was a kkm intake. is this stuff easy enough to learn, or am i better off leaving it to the pros? thanks in advance for the help! __________________ 2004 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 4.0 SOHC |

Look in the useful thread section.. Also there is no cap/rotor.. We run a distributor less ignition.

There is no cap or rotor.
Try a SEARCH for "spark plug replacement" or something along those terms. There are quite a few threads with instructions on the plug/wire replacement. |

get a haynes or chiltons repair manual, they will have instructions for this and hundreds of other repairs only 15 bucks and it will save you tons of time and money in the long run

You can do a "mini" tune up yourself pretty easily. And the books (Haynes, Chiltons) are helpful...but the BEST way to learn is to have someone that knows how to do it, help you.

I seriously doubt that you need to replace plugs/wires at your mileage; many go over 100k on them.
Now would be a great time for a complete fluid change and the switch to synthetic fluids. Good luck and keep asking questions.... __________________ Al Franklin My truck My Quest for 30 RIP Al Franklin! 1947-2010. Gone but not forgotten! :( |
