98 CD Player Problems

I have a F87F-18C815-CA radio in my '98 Explorer Sport. Lately the left front spkr gets real quiet. If I roll all output to that speaker and crank it up it works as expected, for a while then fades out again. Is this radio a had + amp setup? According to the FAQ, it is supposed to be integrated. Calling the local dealer repair shop, he indicated it was a leftover from '97 and has a separate amp, located behind the right rear trim panel.

Does anyone here know if it's integrated or head + amp? If you also have an idea of what the problem may be, pls also respond. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!!

F87F-18C815-CA does use an external amp. This radio was used only part of the year in 1998.
