I dyno'd my truck. I wanted to get some real numbers before I start messing around with the engine. Though some of you guy would be interested in what a stock 5.0 would put out.

Dynojet
Max (RW/FW)HP: 162.9 @ 4290 rpms
Max (RW/FW)TQ: 225.7 @ 3740 rpms
Estimated Fly Wheel Horsepower: 209 @ 4290 rpms [assuming 22 % drivetrain loss]
Estimated Fly Wheel Torque: 289 @ 3740 rpms [assuming 22 % drivetrain loss]

Not bad for a 100k mile old 5.0 :)

It was a 2X Exploder.... Now a part time 4X ranger.

That's really sad #'s for a V8.

Can you please post the actual chart?

Thanks ....

sounds about right for a stock late model. Let us know what you get her up to.

:chug: :chug:

Ack - What happened to the 230 HP that I thought was too low to begin with? I'm curious to see your results as I have a '00 5.0 AWD.

The stock FWHP is 210hp/275TQ IIRC.

Anyone know of any dyno runs for the 4.6l V8? I'd be interested in flywheel numbers and if anyone has any after some mods.

Where did you get the 230hp claim? The 5.0 Explorer has always, pretty much, been rated at 210hp at the flywheel, which is exactly what RiverRat's numbers have shown.

I guess I was wrong. I always thought that the 5.0 had 230 HP but perhaps I was thinking about another car. Since I don't really treat the X as a performance vehicle I don't pay much attention to HP ratings. On previous cars I had them all memorized.

My bad.

Those are depressing numbers for a 5 liter IMHO.
The numbers for the 02 4.6 are 240 HP and 280 TQ crank

Those numbers are right on with what I've seen stockers do in the past. But I'm liking the 225 ft lbs. I need to find where all my torque is. I dynoed at 216 or something.

What transfer case are you running??

I have heard tells that we may get a 302hp, 300lbs torque v8 next year!!

Now that would be a sad situation, 302 H.P and only 300 TQ?

Oh, and Cvt to boot.

Stock ford explorer 5.0 is rated at 215 hp and 288 tq.

'96 and '97s only had a measly 210hp... apparently thanks to the gt40 heads.
