US DOT states that the REAR has to have red reflectors... so all clears no matter what color they light up are illegal

I don't have clears but my altezzas do not have the red side reflector, I've never had a problem with the MD police or my local HOCOPO. I also have blue reverse lights and clear front side markers, both of which are also a nono . Basicly if you don't give the police a reason to pull you over (i.e. - a moving violation) then you shouldn't have a problem, but then again you may also run into a police officer who decides to enforce the law and write you a ticket. There is a certain amount of risk involved, its just a matter of if you want to take the chance or not.

If you REALLY want them, put some red reflective tape on your bumper that will reflect from the side and the back. At least then you can claim you tried to comply and migh get off with a warning.

On Ebay search for "Mercury Mountaineer Clear" . You will find them. I got some a couple of months ago.
