Did I get ripped off?

ok, i took my 98 sport 4x4 toford to have them check a vibration. they call me and say they rotated and balanced the tires, which have about 1k miles on them. adjust air pressure ,which i did myself the night before, and the tires have nitrogen or something in them, so they probably put regular air in them. but heres the killer, i told them there was a "moaning" niose when i turn to lock left and right, so they siad they put some power steering "conditioner" fliud in the system, what the he## is that. so $120 later my truck is exactly the way i took it them and they said try it a few weeks and see how it goes, if thing dont get "better" we'll have to replace the rack or steering pump, geez! for the $120 i could 've had either one of those replaced through warranty($100 deductible). what do you guy think?

If they didnt call you to notify you of the job they did to your X, you dont have to pay for it. They should have called you before any work was done.
At pepboys they wanted to charge my mom for new front and rear brakes, she only went in for a free brake check, well we left with new brakes. They have to call you or something. But if you paid already it might be to late.

Yeah, we always tell our service writers to call the customers before we do work. Always! Dealers won't recommend changing anything until they feel its neccessary. They are horrible. I guess you have an extended warranty correct? If you do, take it to a great shop that you've heard of around town -- let them look it over and they will more than likely find the problem and will do all the warranty paper work and after you give them your 100 plus diagnosis time, you'll be on your way! That is what I did with my truck. Had two ball joints, alignment and a control arm replaced for 100 bucks. Independant shops are sometimes great! Also, another reason why I didn't take it back to the dealership to do the warranty work is because, one - they never find the problem and two - they won't even look at my truck with the way it is! Good lcuk!
