Daily Driver - Shifting Hard - OD error 647

I have a 95 explorer 4.0L. The OD light ls flashing and when it does the truck shifts real hard. The error code is 647, "improper 3rd gear ratio". The car has an OBD-II connector but is really OBD-I so I can reset the code by removing the battery cable. Once I do that the truck runs fine for about 2 days, give or take. Has anyone had this problem?

You probably have a something sticking in the valve body of the tranny. The hard shifting is from the tranny going into default mode when the error ocurrs. Run a search for improper 3rd gear ratio and you should get some threads that detail the possible problems and fixes.

i have a 95 ford explorer 4x4 OD light flashing shifting is good. had the tranny flushed and still light is flashing. What should i do.
