Colorado Vacation Pics

http://www.explorerforum.com/colorado_05/

Char and I are on a two week vacation in Colorado. So far we have visited the Mesa Verde National Monument, The Great Sand Dunes National Park, Royal Gorge Bridge, Cripple Creek and Victor.

I'll let the photos do the rest of the talking... you know what they say about pictures being worth a thousand words

Yep, they sure are. The West has so many that they are starting to kill the ones that aren't adopted

We've been to all those places before. We're hitting new locations this time. We have made another list of places that we would like to go back to in the areas we just hit... there's a ton of cool stuff to do out here

Nice pics Rick. I've always wanted to go to the sand dunes since I've been in CO, but I never have. Looks cool!

I did my part...

Dad and I were pulling the Explorer back to Utah from Atlanta on a gooseneck. We were 12 miles out of Bluff, UT (100 or so miles south of Moab) when we hit a wild horse on the indian reservation. We missed 3, but didn't miss the last one...

(Sorry for the bad pic - only MS Paint at work to downsize with... )

Wow, I would expect more damage than that. Did you slam on brakes and slide into it?

9:30 at night. Anyone thats been to Moab can tell you how dark it is outside - NOTHING like you've seen around Atlanta - its wild - no lights whatsoever. We were running about 60-65 when I saw three heads running from the drivers side across the road. By the time I said 'There's something in the road' - we hit a black male that was chasing the 3 females. He hit in the middle of the truck (you can see his leg prints in the bumper) and bounced off and to the right. I think when the hood bent, it acted like a ramp and launched him. We just rolled to a stop and got out to see how bad it was. It felt like we hit a dog or something else - nothing like a horse. We were grossing somewhere around 16,000 lbs and running 65ish. His 800-1,000lbs didn't stand a chance...

All I know is 250's are made to hit horses. Anything less and that horse would have been in our lap. $17,000 later - the truck is better than before...

It was like a bad dream seeing those heads coming in the darkness...

(sorry to hijack Rick... )
