I am pricing 24x30 steel buildings from my room mate (manager at steel building CO) so far looks like about $5K complete and install because he would set this up as a "training building" for the installers
I still ahve to pay for the concrete slab of course, and have to check the regulations on this type of thing in my neighborhood (many houses have back sheds/garages). Right now its really just a dream but we shall see! I may have a full blown shop in the back yard someday soon!

If you have bikes or anthing that mounts in a reciever hitch its really nice to have a piece of tube mounted somewhere for that. Instead of buying a seperate work stand for my bikes I just throw the hitch carrier into a reciever on my bench. I also have some old speakers and my pioneer reciever from the early 70s. The speakers are up and out of the way in the rafters and the old pioneer takes a beating and just wont die and sounds good too. I also hooked up cable, cat5, phone, and a doorbell from the house which is pretty nice if theres a delivery or someones coming over. I plan of running water soon just havent gotten around to it.

if you do end up going with a steel building like that... be aware that they are a bitch to insulate and i highly recommend putting insulation foam underneath the concrete....it really helps keep the heat in.... you might even think about doing that hot water piping in the floor heated by a little wood burner....good luck with the garage....

I got almost all the old drywall out now. Except behind the water heater. I got the old sink out as well as the washer and dryer (for now). Tomorrow, the rest of the walls get torn out, the electrical gets ran, and the air lines get plummed. I have my new sink and hardeare picked out as well as the lights.

I probably won't be able to get the new drywall started till the weekend after t-haven.

I built a garage this summer. I am going to add a spot light in the rafters that points to where the hood is on the Mounty. Maybe I'll need the halogen light stand less. I've also considered putting in an an exhaust port next too the door.

I posted some pic of my El Camino with the garage unfinished in the backround. I should take some pictures as it is actually clean.

Well I got a late start on Saturday. After spending a lot of time and even more money at Hope Depot and Lowes, I came back with just about everything I needed to wire the garage, plumb the water lines, and plumb the air lines. As of last night all I got done was the water lines and the new sink and faucet installed.

In the near future I'll be going back to a conventional washer and dryer. So it should work a lot better then. :p

Okay.. after a day off I got to working again tonight (sort of). I went to Sears to buy a 3/8 corded drill... cause somehow I've made it 26 years without a corded drill... and I ran into a great deal on a tool box. Now the last thing I need right now is MORE stuff in the garage... but it was a smokin deal.

This is how I am planning my air lines. Let me know what you think. I'll have a drain at the end of the line. In theory, since the air flows out of the top of the tubing, all the water should flow to the end of the line.

Did you think about getting a parts washer tub, or a sand blaster booth for cleaning parts?

You should do 2 things when plumbing air. Have a slope from the high part to the lower that is constant at about 1/8 inch per foot. Also on each drop down continue past the connector to a lower line drain.

SCORE BABY!! Can you say BEEFY?

Craiglist is proving invaluable when remodeling my garage.

This AM posted in my area was a steel heavy duty work bench for $50.
I went and picked it up as soon as I could, $$$$ talks I have found and you have to be quick! I am lucky enough to be able to leave work when I need to to go do this stuff.

So I just brought home a 30x72" US Marine Core folding work table, $50 cash

Cannot beat that deal!
This sucker will get put to GOOD USE I can promise you that!
Once the Explorer project is done I will move this sucker around a bit, My plan is to attach it to the wall so it will fold against the wall flat. This will give me lots more room when parking two trucks in there. The legs cam come out to support it. Likely require some custom cutting and welding, but thats fine with me!

Damn you. Since you told me about the cabinets I've been on CL multiple time a day. But Chico is pretty damn small and nothing cool ever arises. :p

What do you have there? A new Handler 140??

180 Still need the bottle and to run 220 to the garage.

Keep checking kitchen cabinets go FAST!!!!! Like within 10 minutes of being posted around here.
People are also starting to realize they are worth $$$ instead of just free....
There are so many good deals its a JOKE!
I found a friggin 3x4 utility trailer setup for pull behinda truck with a 2" ball for $25!!! I missed that one....would have been perfect for camping/hauling, showing off it was only $25 to my friends....

You have to be QUICK! I always tell the people, I have a truck, I have the CASH and I can be there ASAP. So far everyone I have bought stuff from is like man yo ugot lucky, I had alot of interest! The guy this AM I got the table from said after he talked to me on the phone he had a guy tell him he would give him $150 for it, he said sorry Jamie's already on his way...

It was an X mas gift but yes I think it was about $650 delivered. its friggin nice! Only shortcoming I can see comparing it to the Miller 175 is the miller has adjustable speeds/heat with infinate settings (smooth dial), where the Hobart has like 12 positions on the dial. Fine with me, it will work just as good for my uses.

I have 2 of those exact same tables in my garage, very sturdy. Cut a piece of thick ply to make a shelf on the bottom

Little update:

The old man got back into town yesterday, so he's coming over to work on the garage with me tomorrow.

We should get done with all the air lines, the outlets, and wiring for the lights. Then it's just drywall. Can't wait.

But tonight, I am sorta cleaning up. Since I got my new welder yesterday (haha Jamie :p ) I picked up some 1.5" square tubing (1/8"wall if you care) and made me a little table saw stand. This will come in very handy for when I get the saw up and running. I threw some casters (2 with wheel locks) on it, and will add a couple hooks for the power cord and blade wrench. In about 18 miunutes I'll start painting it.... Ford Blue.

Good thing the garage floor is dusty. I had to paint it under the cover of the open garage door cause it's barely drizzling out there.
