Got it all painted... the floor cleaned up.. and the first row of lights in.

I'm undecided if 6 lights will be enough..

Two things you cannot have too much of... money or light in a garage. Err on the side of too much light. So what are your plans for the floor ?

what you lack in overhead lighting you make up for with spot lighting, ie work lights. Ones that drop fromthe ceiling are VERY handy.

It might be too late for this, but recessed fluorescent lights are flush with the ceiling if you need a lot of overhead room. You wouldn't have to worry about knocking into them with pipes, or anything else that you would be moving around in there. A sprinkler system is also a good idea to prevent fires, and a carbon monoxide/smoke alarm combo is required by law in the city that I live in on every floor. I just have it on the first floor, but should really have more than one. With all of the expensive equipment you are going to have in there, you might want to install an alarm system too.

If you have, and I'm sure you will have a disignated work table that you could spend hours at standing on your feet. You might want to get one of those soft rubbder mats to stand on. When I was a sheet metal fabricator I stood for hours at one spot. And the end of the work day, not only did my feet thank me, so did the rest of my body. Tractor Supply had them on sale for $30 something. Also at that table a stool that is high enough so you don't have to hunch over your work is very nice.

I saw those at Tractor Supply and was actually thinking about picking some up. I'll have a stool (with backrest I hope :p ) for the front of my work bench, but one of these would work well under it.

I spent most of the day wiring up all the outlets. What a long, boring process. I also got the other two sets of lights up, the attic light in, and garage door opener hooked back up. Tomorrow is hook the new outlets to the breaker box and attach all the fittings onto the air lines.

Couple new things in the mail today.

The garage heater came. Tested it out. Hell yes. Now it will probably be 90 degrees here on out.

Got some nylon outlet plates in from Grainger. They're super tough and over-sized which helps when you suck at the drywall. Check out the before and after.

The nylon plates are great, I get them at home depot its about $3.50 for a box of ten, which is only about a $1.50 more than the regular crap ones so its worth it. Next time you do dry wall cut a template the size of the box out of wood and use it to trace the box on the wall, the just use a good drywall saw and cut 1 side at a time, by tapping it through, the last side just score it and knock it out.

I like what you did with the air fittings... nice looking.... Once I did a garage for air and never thought of doing something nice looking like that. Do you have individual shut off valves for each line? And did you put a drain in? Be curious how you ran it. Looks really nice !

I do not have individual shut-off valves on each line. What I did was basically made a big C shape in the attic with the copper. The begining (above the compressor) is the heighest spot while the end of the C is the lowest... where the drain is. Each of the lines pulls air from the top of the copper to limit moisture in them. It should work out pretty good.

Might have to draw a diagram as it's sorta confusing.

Also, I was at Costco today picking up some flooring for the kitchen when I saw these. For about $15 you can't go wrong. This will come in very handy.

Yeah. I'll be getting at least one of those too. They had them at Costco.. but I think the air hose was pretty cheap. I'll wait to get a decent quality one.

I am officially calling this project basically done.

First I'll go into some before and after pics.

Before

After

Before

After

Plans of now are to probably get rid of that dusty weight set dealio. Absoutley no one uses it and that call space will nicely house a welding table and a nice stand for the blast cabinet. Or maybe even a bigger blast cabinet.

Also, I still need to figure out some cabinets for storage and possibly some shelving. I want to replace the large black shelving unit with a nice floor to ceiling cabinet, not quite as long as it is now though.

I'm going to install a small sheet of diamond plate right behind the grinder. There was a lot of dusty embedded into the wall, but luckily it scrubbed off. As well as I still need at least one hose reel. Oh yeah, and a tube bender.

I'm going to say this entire project only set me back about $3k. Free labor is nice. :p
