Finished VB rebuild... Problems... (SOLVED!)
I just finished the VB rebuild. Used all required kits (Ford, Superior and Sonnex). I used a VB that I bought so I could work on it without removing it from the Ex(daily driver). Now I am getting hard shifts(1-2 2-3) and 4th is a soft shift. I eventually get a P0715 code( input/turbine shaft sensor circuit malfunction. In any case the reverse delay is gone. Any help would be appreciated

Your symptoms fit a failed Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor exactly. It could be the sensor, OR it could be a wiring harness. I have not priced a new sensor.... if they are under $20 you might try replacing it. Otherwise i can walk you through "Pinpoint Test 'F'".

Is it one of the sensors within the VB? If it is I can use the sensors from my original VB which is on my workbench. Also didnt have this prob bfore the VB exchange

I said that without thinking. the TSS is the sensor on the center support.... only accessable by pulling the tranny and dissassembly.
Since you did not have that before, let us make sure it is not the harness.... or a wiring problem.... I'll need to do some homework. |

i got my sensor for 22.00 + tax locally so they should not be that much more where
you are. hope that is not the problem but if it is you might as well get a master kit and go for the full rebuild. |

I really dont think my tranny needs the full rebuild. Now that I think about it maybe i did something to the wiring harness because I had a problem getting the VB harness into the hole that goes outside of the tranny. I had to force it up into the hole and my screwdriver went into the bottom part of the harness

I have a copy of the ford serv manual on cd pinpiont test F will allow me to check to make sure that the tss is ok w/o removing the VB. Is this check on the harness leading to the VB or to the top of the tranny? Just wanna double check bfore I tear into the tranny again Tomorrow.
Thanx for all the help ;

Glacier, is that sensor the type that puts out a variable voltage, or a variable frequency? I assume that it is a hall effect style part internally that is very similar to an external VSS, distributor speed sensor, or anti lock sensor.

BrooklynBay,
What part of Brooklyn are you from? Dont be fooled by my profile Im from Flatbush.Went to Erasmus Hall. Just ended up in GA thanks to the Army. I think Im gonna change the wiring harness from my original VB to the one that I have replaced today after I check my TSS. Thanx again Gentleman, Im in you debt. __________________ There are no secrets to success. It is the result of Hard Work, Preparation and learning from failure Gen. I'm also in Flatbush, but more in the section you could call Midwood. I know the area you are referring to. It is more to the north of where I live. I'm more south. It is a 20 minute drive to the area where you used to live. How many years ago did you move? Getting back to the transmission harness, why did you replace the wiring harness in the first place if that wasn't the original problem? Maybe the new harness was for a different model.

I didnt replace the harness. What I did was buy a 2nd VB so that I could do all of the mods on it w/o having to remove the old VB. The Ex is my daily driver (130mi trip) .That would allow me to just remove and replace it incase there was something wrong with my original one. I did it that way because speed was the key in this. I dont get too may days off so I had to do it this way.Maybe it is the 2nd VB causing this one of my posts a while back I asked Glacier a question about the VB and the part# for the EPC was different than the replacement one from Ford. My plan was to first check the TSS(pp test F) and if it passed I was going to replace the harness with the original or just take the mods out of the 2nd VB and put them on the original. So much for speed huh... lol.
I used to live on Bedford Ave btwn Clarendon and Ave D. I remember the Midwood area slightly. How far from Brooklyn College are you? I left Brooklyn about 15 yrs ago (Army) and the last time I was back was in 2000 when I got back from Germany. __________________ There are no secrets to success. Good Morning,
Just disassembled the VB again and realized that the plug for the TSS popped out of the VB harness so once I get it back together I'll give you an update.

Thanx everyone for all of your help. The Ex is running fine.
Thank heavens it was only my carelessness. I thought I might have to shell out some more money for a trans ( wifes went out last month 98 Grand Prix GTP) set me back $1400. What a relief. __________________ There are no secrets to success. It is the result of Hard Work, Preparation and learning from failure Gen. I'll be curious to hear your perceptions of the changes in your shift performance post VB rebuild.
Glad it was something simple. |

The shifting is what I remembered it to be. The flare is gone and the reverse delay is at the most 1 sec. when its cold. All shifts are smooth and you can hardly feel them. I forgot that I have the external B&M shiftplus+ wired into the PCM which has two settings for shift firmness. Guess I'll test it out tomorrow. I have had good results thanx to this forum and the individuals (Glacier & BklynBay). Maybe I'll get a chance to take the Ex back on the Autobahn (120mph +).
