Question Rear Window Wiper

I have had trouble with this wiper since I bought my Explorer in 1997. I recently had to remove the fuse due to wiper starting when engine starts and not stopping for 10-20 passes. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?...or how to correct?

Thumbs up

Yeah, you don't realize how much you use it until it is gone. Especially this time of year. Do you think that taking out the switch and spraying it with WD-40 would work?

i think just pulling the switch and making sure all the contacts and hinges are clean and functioning properly would help... also check the associated wires making sure insulation is in good shape and there is no exposed wire...

my rear windshield wiper only has a 6 inch strip that touches the glass in the middle... doesnt matter if I replace the blade... only that little bit touches the glass...

so i just dont use it much...

I wouldn't use WD-40 on the switch, I would use Electrical Contact Cleaner. You can buy it at Radio Shack. WD-40 will gum it all up.

US

Yeah, I guess when you think about it WD-40 would be a bad choice. It is a good thing they have message boards, 'cause I do not know diddly about mechanics. But, I need to learn to keep the cost of repairs down.

That's ok. If you hang around here enough you will become a more knowledgeable mechanic.

FYI, be carefull with the contact cleaner. I froze a couple of switches once while cleaning them and the plastic shattered. I guess I cleaned them too well....
