putting together system

I want to put a new system in my wife's Explorer (98 XLT 4 dr.). New h/u, front /rear speakers and an amp. Maybe a sub later. I really want to put components up front and just some nice 5x7's in the rear for fill. What size components fit up front? 5 1/4 or will 6 1/2's fit? I have Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5 components in my Mustang and love them, so I am leaning towards Kappa's again. Also, what size 4 channel amp would be best for this configuration? Any and all suggestions/help are welcome!!

thanks in advance

JVC, Pioneer, and Alpine are all great HUs. Eclipse has a double DIN HU with an LCD, DVD player(with a seperate one for the nav), and built in navigation that I ooze over. The upgraded version has a hard drive too.

Speaker wise, Infinity, Alpine, and Boston Acoustics are all awesome, Polk isn't too bad either. I prefer Alpine over the others if you're not going to run subs, as they get a little more bass and still sound great.

thanks man. Do you know off hand if 6 1/2" components will work in the front? I really would like to know so I can start looking on Ebay. If anyone has some pics of components in there Explorer, I'd love to see them. Also, any install tips like with mounting the tweeter and the crossovers.

thanks again

I used to have a set of 6.5" CDT's in the front doors.I had to make an adapter out of scrap wood, but other than that they fit.Just gotta watch the depth.Only have about 2.5" I think. My spacer was 1/2" so it didn't really matter.I have pics I can post up in a little while.

Here's a couple. As you can see I mounted the crossovers under the front seats. With the driver side I slid it under more because I didn't feel like taking that seat out.Excuse all the crumbs and all the panels that are taken off.Put in a new head unit, a new amp, and a mobile video system in as well.I placed the tweets. in the vents that pointed towards the drivers ears but it could have been better.I didn't have time as this was july 3rd, had to get it done and operational before we went to Nevada for the 4th.Had too many aerial fireworks to do them in a "legal" state haha.Anyway now I'm just rambling.

The drill got a mind of its own when I was screwing this crossover down.Broke one of the mounting feet on the crossover.Nothing a little superglue can't fix.

Looks good. I wouldn't have thought to mount the Xovers under the seats. I'm glad to know the 6 1/2's will fit. I really like them better.

Well I surprised my wife and had a Pioneer DEH7700 installed yesterday. She loves and so do I. Now on to speakers/amp. I may not go with components up front(my wife wouldn't know the difference). So should I go with a 6x8 in all four corners? Will a 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 round speaker fit? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Just trying to find what sizes will fit then I'll search for a specific model.
