Finding the keyless entry code.
I just purchased an 04 xlt and i'm looking for the keyless entry code. I've looked everywhere on the vehicle and can't find it. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Try looking for a box in the rear drivers' side cargo area behind the plastic (access thru where the jack is). The code should be on it.
Welcome to the site, and don't be afraid to search! |

the access number is located in the C pillar behind the second row passenger side seat. Just pull the top panel off enough for you to see inside clearly and pull the lower section away, you'll see the module attached to the body. look for the five large numbers on the sticker on the front of the unit, mine was towards the upper right corner of it. Hope this helps, also this is the same for all 3rd gen (02-06) as far as I know.

Its on the passenger side. I looked and looked and finally pulled a bit farther, mine was located on a white sticker that read BOSCH I had to stick a mirror in to read, I also got info to reprogram it, which is probably sugggested... alll you have to do is type in the factory code, press the 1/2 then enter the new code. Thata way if anyone ever figures it out you can change it, the factory code always works and can't be changed from what I know.

2 DR also?
Does this also apply to the 2dr sport models? I just purchased mine used and was also wondering how to get the code. The pictures in the link show it located behind the passenger rear door, which i dont have.

Yours will be located behind the access panel where the jack is stowed. There will be a box, sort of hard to see the code on it because the bot it is on is far forward in the compartment, but it's 5 digits, fairly large text. It might also be on a card in the owners manual pouch. __________________ '02 XLT V8 4x4 tow pkg - pulling '07 Crossroads Sunset Trail 21' '03 Focus SVT, MPG getter - daily driver '04 Volvo S40, wifes ride '95 F-150 4x4 Eddie Bauer GONE: '94 Sport, '91 XLT, '92 XL 2dr 4x4 33's lifted |

keyless entry
Hi new to the site as of this past weekend. Lots of great info!
We just bought the cleanest 1999 Mountaineer you ever saw. It came with one key and a fob. The key will open the passengers side but not the drivers side. It looks like a regular key and not one of the so called electronic keys. Is this why the drivers door won't open or isit just broken. I found the keyless entry code thanks to this site now I'm currious to know how the buttons work on the out side of the door. Is a #1 a push on the left side of the button and a #2 a push on the right side and a push in the middle a #1/2? I still have to go to the dealer to have keys programed...right??? Thanks |

When I bought my '02 a few years ago I stopped by my local Ford dealer and it took them about 5 minutes to hook into the diagnostic port and check the key code, it didnt cost a dime and was real simple.

Yes you can and its there
TechRev is correct for the 02 mod's and up, the whole process takes less than 5 minutes and you dont have to be tech guy to do it. THe code is located in the piller between 2nd and third row on passenger side. pull back the weather striping on door, carefully pop the plastic molding around seatbelt at top off start at the top and pry easy should pop off easily with a little pressure, once its off youll see the top side of a small box pull the bottom plastic panel back far enough to read the numbers on the side of it, they face towards the seats and are easily read by anyone 5 digits. lock the doors and try the code to be sure you have it because there is another set of numbers that might confuse you so before you replace check first. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=151376 Here is a link that has pics from a man that knows his stuff. Good luck and hope this saves someone some moneys.

The buttons are 1/2, 3/4, etc. A push on the one-two counts for either number - it is not directional. You would have to have the key dealer programmed for the 3rd generation, but I'm not sure about the second. I would say that you probably do. |
