Crutchfield: slight modification required to install reg. DIN Kenwood

This is not the exact Kenwood I am installing but its close and it is the exact same size as the one I am installing:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3CI3uX7...300&I=113MP732

Crutchfield states that: "To install this item, you'll need to modify your vehicle." When I click on the "Installation Details" below that warning, a pop up window (sorry, I can't provide a direct link to that) states that:

1) Minor filing (less than a sixteenth of an inch) of your car's trim panel is required

and

2) You will drill 3 holes in your dash to mount the kit and the aftermarket radio. A trim ring is provided to cover the holes.

What kind of filing is required, do I file the dash panel or something behind that?

Has anyone installed a Kenwood using the Crutchfield instructions? I looked on this forum and I could not find anything on that subject.
