hi im from Puerto Rico and i have 99 explorer. after i made some repairs( new time chains 3 , all o-rings of the intake, new head gaskets, new water pump, new termostat housing, replace one big plastic cap of the radiator the explorer is getting hot, but not too hot is like 3/4 before the H. there is no leaks. The repairs was made because the thermo housins craked then i cheked for the chains and need to be replace it. before the repairs the explorer get hot but not too hot never reached the H. i cheked the fan clucht and is fine, the radiator cap is new. when i drive for a while and then stop in idle speed began to get hot like 3/4 , i accelerate a little bit and then the gauge began to get down to a normal temperature. i torqued the head bolts to a 70 lbs because dont have a torque angle this is the unique thing taht i made off the specifications.

Any idea why is getting hot?

When they changed the Head Gasket.. did you check the cylinder head if there is a Crack?? or does it even been machined?? means re face the cylinder head.. It can contribute if all the obove is existing..

If you can changed the cylinder Head by new one or even used but in better surface, i think it will be Ok..

Anyway just wait for some reply from experts here

i cheked all and is ok there is no crack, i cleaned with a sand paper to remove carbon build up
