E85 is something like $1.50 around here or something. Will the Explorer run on this?

Not without messing up your fuel system.

02-05 came option as flex fuel. check vin if 8th character is K or characters 2 and 3 are FT, then it can run on e85

Man I wish they sold it around here. Like satyr64 said if its a flexfuel your good and a lot of explorers are.

i ran it in my 03 4.0

no probs, less mileage but it is 2.90 in michigan. if it says flex fuel you are good. also if you go on cars.com and look up your Ex it will say next to the type of engine flex fuel if you indeed have one

Yep my lease 04 Explorer is a Flex Fuel one...however the mpg is a lot worst...plus liek the poster above it is hard to find in MI and it cost close enough to the real deal that the .05-.10 cents a gallon you save does not really add up to much of a savings if your getting 12mpg...LOL

I will be driving outwest at the end of the month if I see it for $1.50 I will use it, then it is a savings.

Browsed that site, nothing there on how to search for it.
Incidently fuel is $3.09 here, and E85 is $1.25.

cars.com says that there is a flex fuel and a non flex fuel 4.0

the manual will tell you. so will the price sticker if you still have it. and if you google "flex fuel vehicles" there is a site out there that lists the ffvs

It has the K
Confirmed with the Ford Dealer
Also they advised to run the tank close to dry, so that way the fuel wouldn't mix. Might make it a little easier on the truck.

doesn't really mater anyhow, E85 isn't always 85% ethonal, just UP TO 85%. It all depends on what they got with there last shipment and it could be a 60/40 mix even.

i saw a comparison of the cost and mileage on a vehicle with both gas and e85, i think it was on some govt fuel economy site...

the difference at the end of an entire year was something like $60-70 due to the decreased mileage of the e85.

not really worth it if you ask me...

rancherlee, do you have any specs on that tbird v6? i wish i ran a 14 with my v8 :D
surely its not faster than your mark.

If your truck is FLEX FUEL, it will say it on the inside of your gas door. You can look at your VIN # and see as well, but its easier to flip your gas door open and read to see if it is.....

btw, if they sold it here for $1.25 or even $2.00 a gallon, I would jump on it. I tried it on a trip as I pass thru a place that had it and let me tell you...I could tell the difference with more power and the mpg loss was not even noticed....i might have go down a couple of mpg....but if the price is right, then its well worth it....plus it is cleaner fuel.

not to mention it sends a message to alah

The fuel door does NOT say Flex Fuel, but I bought the truck used, so it's possible it did at one time. The VIN says it is.

I just want to do something different, I'm tired of driving to the pump, opening my wallet, emptying it at the cash register and walking away a "little funny"

E85 runs about 2.70 right now in my town and regular gas is 2.96.
As more and more E85 refineriws come on line in the US it should get cheaper (as it is in the midwest).
Right now it doesn't seem like much savings but you have to remember if you use E85 you are giving money back to Americans and not the Arabs.
