Just read this on a local new channel and looked around but didn't see the info on here yet.

The whole story

Ford said the recall was tied to the speed control deactivation switch. The automaker said the system could corrode over time, overheat and catch fire.

Yep, saw it on CNN's website yesterday. Recall now includes 98 Explorers as well. No other year for some reason.

I checked my 96 Sport yesterday and it has the same red switch. However, mine is not hot 24/7. I double checked it with a voltmeter. It gets voltage only when key is in ON position. That's interesting since so many people mentioned that the switch is hot for them 24/7. Can anyone with 96 and any other year check the switch for power? I am going to replace it anyway since it's cheap.

I know of a guy whose f150 burned while parked due to the cruise control shorting out on him.
