on my 99 SOHC, you need a special tool that pops the fuel filter off the line. I would go to your local parts store and ask for the fuel filter tool for your ford.

Its takes only 10 mins, pop off the old, pop in the new. Just watch the fuel that drops everywhere when you pop it off

Oh yeah, and my book reccomends I disable the fuel pump (there is a connector under the right hand side by the firewall) and run the car til it stalls to get rid of all pressure. If you have an SOHC, I will take pics for u

i do have the SOHC...pics would be great thanks

Disconnect the inertia switch located behind the trim piece near the passenger's right foot (along the side, just under the glove box). You have to remove the trim. Once it's disconnected, start the car (or try to for a couple of seconds). This will relieve the fuel pressure. Leave the switch disconnected until you finish replacing the filter.

The fuel filter is located along the inside of the driver's side frame rail about even with the back edge of the driver's door. There may be a couple of screws that attach the filter to the frame rail (can't remember, but remove them if they are there). You will need the special tool for Ford fuel filters - as stated before, you should be able to pick them up at Autozone or Napa. It looks like a split cylinder (http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/OTC-6509.html . Basically you close this down around the hose and slide it back into the metal shroud - it will release the spring clips and allow you to pull it apart, on each side. Word of advice, once you insert this tool and are ready to pull the line off, wrap it with a towel to keep from getting a shower. Installation is the reverse, the filter should be marked with the direction of flow (back to front). Reconnect the inertia switch and you should be all set. Good luck - sorry I don't have any pics

hey thanks for the write up, sounds pretty simple.
