Hiding amps....Were would you put them?

Hi. I have a 97 explorer and i am going to be putting a stereo in it soon. I will be having 2 amps, a mono block and a 4 channel. I can't put them under the seats because i do need to fold them down from time to time, so theres no room.

I was thinking about putting on the roof near the rear window. I thought that mabee they would be hard to see there, so no one will notice them. I can't really put them in the back on the walls or on the sub box because i carry a lot of tools with me, and i don't want the amps being damaged.

Any other ideas? Also if i did put them on the roof, how would i go about it? I didnt really want to screw them in. Could i use velcro? =)

Any and all thoughts are apreciated!

thanks

please dont velcro you amps to the roof, if it was me i wouldnt mount them to the headliner, you would have to have something behind the headliner to grab the screws

just make a false floor and mount them under it

ive seen a few amps mounted upside down with the back cover off so you can see the internals, but they usually had some 80mm fans blowing on them

If you take the jack compartment side panel off, there is some room directly over the wheel well for a fair sized amp. I am running a mono block behind there right now.

Reasons? or just because u say so? I didnt realize that the amps would have problems upside down, i assumed that the fans, would work either way...

your not supposed to mount amps upside down for cooling reasons, heat goes up, so if the heat sink is point down the heat is not going to transfer as good and you run the risk of messing the amp up, not all amps have fans btw

I have two amps mounted behind the passenger side rear panel, where a stock sub would go...

You dont happen to have pics of this do you?

Also, woulden't an amp get fairly warm back there? Like i mentioned, i have 2 of them, so im pretty sure i could install them there, but i dont see how i could put the cover back on, it seems to me that there would be no airflow.

I made a custom storage/tool box in the rear. It's about 6" high. I think you said you carry a lot of tools around? I put all my tow ropes, flashlights, first aid, etc. in one compartment and my amp, crossover, etc. in the other. Then I just set the rest of my stuff on top of that whether it be more tools, sub boxes, etc.

Sorry, no pics... They're just mounted to a board back there... Instead of putting the little pocket back in (it wouldn't fit if I wanted to)... I got a stock sub woofer cover which has holes in it, that allows for some venting... You could put a small fan in there there up near the rear passanger door blowing toward the back of the truck to force the hot air out through the speaker cover... I don't have a fan and haven't had any problems yet...

I have an amp behind the passanger rear panel. Next to my stealthbox. You can mount another amp behind the drivers rear panel as well. There's room. Although it depends on how big the amps are.
