Where do you get you paint?
Let's say I wanted to repaint a fender... and would like to use original color scheme... where do I go to buy OEM paint (other than stealership)... spray can or not... doesn't matter. Where do you guys get your paint?

I have searched Autozone and others... they don't have NA - that's the code.
Wow! $25.00 per 12.5 oz. can... that's pricey... I'm considering painting the whole thing yellow anyway so we'll see. thanks, |

Have you tried a auto paint supply store? When I painted my X I went to a local store. They stocked Dupont paint. They matched paint based on the door code. An auto paint store should also have the color scanner to match any color. Yes auto paint is very expensive.

Check Ketone supply.. They have a shop in bridgeview and in huntley. I get some of my autobody supplies from them... I think you can find their contact info on yahoo. Not sure what they charge for paint, but I believe they'll mix it. At this point, I'd say go all yellow!

I get my dupont paint matched at a local supply store. They use the color scanner and all. It is a shitty match though. I am pretty mad about that. Just hope you get a good shop that has their stuff calibrated right and isn't dumb. It is great paint when the color is right.

Matching color is gonna be kind of hard... the truck is 12 years old. I just got euro-spec headlights with one matching my truck... it's a bit datrker though.
Pedro... it's going yellow with grey-hammered roof, hood and rear gate.

I buy my auto paint ONLY through an auto paint shop. Good paint is not cheap, but the results are worth it. I have gotten immune to sticker shock on high quality paint. (upwards of $500 for an entire vehicle) The one time I cut corners with cheap paint, I hated myself afterwards. The best paint and best sales poeple are in auto paint stores. I recommend no where else.
ps. paint stores tend to be dealers for one of several paint lines. Mine is a PPG dealer and I like PPG products because I know them and am familiar with them. Other brands are as good, or in one case, probably better (and pricier). pps.A good single stage urethane paint with flex additive for a soft bumper will run you about $100.Be prepared. |

I was just thinking about painting the rear quarter panels back in original NA color... after looking at paint prices I decided against it. It might be cheaper to just go to some body shop and have them spray it on...
on the other hand... trail will make corrections to my paint job anyway so I think yellow will do for now... unless I find some left over cans of NA paint at Autozone... which I doubt. thanks for all the input. I think I've got all the info I need just in case I want to repaint the whole thing later on. |

I've tried those chrome paints (sort of) in the past... never looks like chrome anyway but get close...
I have painted an entire car previously using Rustoleum paint - Candy Apple Red - looked pretty good - the guy still drives the Jeep today. Get a few cans extra and it's an easy fix every time you get a scratch. |
