what program are you using to capture the video? if you're looking for quality, don't use windows movie maker. A good (free) capture utility i've found is virtualdub (http://www.virtualdub.org/). I use Sony Vegas for editing, again movie maker is going to cause image quality to suffer when you save your video. We do this with my buddy's panasonic camcorder all the time via firewire, usually with great results. Good luck!

What type of camera is it, is it a newer digital camera or one that uses the old style tapes? Either way you will lose some quality anytime you transfer onto your computer. This is called losing a "generation", and the goal is really to minimize it. If the camera you're using is a newer digital camera, try to use the firewire, it allows for higher quality and faster speeds. The digital camera also losses less quality in each transfer. I too use Vegas 6.0 for my video(thinking of going up to 7.0 for the HD benefits
). On a side note, let me know if you need any help. I've got a TON of animations that will really let your video "Pop" out from the rest. I'm learning this editing with a computer as I go, and I'm always looking for new places to learn. Take a look at http://www.digitaljuice.com/products...p?cid=1&pvid=2, I've got their wedding and church jumpbacks, as well as editors tool kits, and I'm more than willing to help you out for the learning experience that I'll gain. |

If it's on a mini-dv tape, then you shouldn't lose too much quality. Just make sure when you render the video you render it at 30FPS and at it's highest quality. The format of current choice for quality is .mpeg. This does however change from time to time.

I really can't say what other program besides Vegas I would try, never really messed with that. Without seeing the video on tape verses on the computer it's hard to really point what the issue is, but I have a gut feeling that you may not get much better video that what you're looking at now. Was your camera on it's highest setting when you were filming? Drop me an email with the settings that you're rendering the finial video as and what you're capturing the video as.

If you have a MiniDV cam, transfer via firewire instead of USB. Firewire gives you a MUCH better quality in transferring. Also if you have a MiniDV, your cam should have came with a CD with software to transfer via firewire. Then I use some lesser known but very powerful software for video editing (Womble MPEG Video Wizard), and DVD Authoring (DVD-Lab Pro 2).
Good luck. Any questions PM me. |
