Is it possible to put a 3rd row seat into an explorer that didnt come with one?

I dont have a third row but I'd say yes. It would be a PITA though. You would have to buy all the panels that match the rear. It's not as simple as just bolting in the seat.

However, looking at my third seat, and looking at a non-third seat 3rd gen, the side panels look the same. I even have the mounts for the cargo cover, which wasn't offered for the 3 seat version. I haven't looked at the floor panels, but they would certainly have to be changed and the cushions and backrest of course. It might not be as daunting as you would think. Have a look at both the non and equiped 3rd seat ex.

You bet your ass it is. I just did mine. I had no 3rd row and the 60/40 second. I bought a 3rd row plus the 35/30/35 second row seats in leather for mine. I can tell ya how to do it if you want. Took me about 5-7 hours. I only have the 3rd row. I did not change the side panels or install the stock seatbelts, but I know how. Let me know.

It is possible, a little time consuming, but several people have done it
