'07 driving light mounting

My XLT (not really, they stopped badging it as an XLT in '07) has the stock horizontal bar chromed plastic grill. It has a smaller area across the bottom of the grill with a single bar in it.

I want to cut out the single bar at the bottom and mount rectangular driving lights behind the grill.

Any thoughts?

Is there anything in there that is solid/strong enough to hold the lights steady without a lot of jiggling? I am capable of fabricating simple mounting brackets.

Do you think the plastic grill might melt from the heat of the lights?

Ok this is what I did. I bought a Cabellas brush guard, its very nice and mounted some Hellas on the pre-drilled light holes. Works very well looks sweet too.

Cabelas has ten guards. Which one did you choose? Did it just bolt on, or did you have to cut away some of the plastic on the front end of your Explorer?

Its Cabellas Classic. I can't tell you because I did not do the install. A local shop did it while I was out of town, but I looks like nothing was cut away, but I have looked where you install it and I never could find a clean place to bolt it. No drilling required though. That link has a install video with a F-250, and comes with model specific instructions. You might want to call them.
