Power Switch for "X"

Is there any way that I can mount up some sort of Toggle/Flip switch in side the cabin, in a semi-hiding spot, like under the dash or in the center console that will cut power to the my X so it will not start. I want to do this because I think it would be a good Idea to prevent against my car getting stolen but, MAINLY like at work tonight a kid took my keys and parked my car on the completely other side of the building, and I would love for him to try it again and get out to my car and try and start it and nothing, not a damn thing...

Would I need any special kind of toggle/flip/keylike switch that would be needed to do this?

And where would I go about splicing it in?

Cut one of the wires going to the starter solenoid and run them through a toggle or button switch. Then run the wire from the switch to the starter solenoid. Basically, the switch has to be flipped/pressed or else you can't start it. Go to Home Depot for the switch. It's like $1.50. You can rig it for less than $5.

I have a switch installed in my X that bypasses the key ignition in the same fashion, but in reverse. Basically, I turn the key to On, and then flip the toggle switch to start. I hid the switch in my ash tray. Many people have tried to start my truck unsuccessfully.

Cheers,
John

You could just use a toggle switch and cut the power to the fuel pump. I cut the fuel pump power line at the "shock" switch, which is under the passenger side dashboard on my '96. All I do is flip the switch and no fuel. You could have the keys and crank all day and it won't start.

That's a good point, too. Pardon my inexperience, but wouldn't you eventually burn up your starter or break something if you sat there trying to start it like that? I wouldn't know, but I'd imagine you would. Either way, it can be done with less than like $5 today as opposed to that $50 kit that you have to wait a week to have shipped.

If you had a fuel pump kill switch you could crank the truck without it starting. Which in turn could burn it up/ kill your battery. A high amp switch for the starter hidden would probably be really easy and cheap. Notice the HIGH AMP part of that though. Don't think you can get away with some random switch or button.

I would put a relay-toggle switch disable on the starter relay circuit.--
Could even use a hidden push button starter switch---heh heh--

I did the starter-solenoid cut-off trick on an old CJ

But instead of using a hidden toggle switch, I used the floor mounted headlight dimmer switch.

I believe there are heavier-duty versions but these should be more than enough since they can handle high-beams easy.

I looked under the dash of the Ex and it seems that there is enough space to hide the switch (mounted on the firewall) just above where your left foot would be...hidden a bit but still within easy reach

Thanks for the ideas, I think that when I get the time(who knows when that will be cause working ALOT the next two weeks) but when I do get the time I will go to the Local ACE and check out what they got and if no decent switches then make a drive somewhere and pick up a switch. After looking at the kit from summit and hearing the fuel pump Idea I think that I am planning on just running it before starte silenoid (spell check can't think tonight I'm died tired).
