Here is a link to the best FAQ I have found regarding the Firestone recall. It explains the coding for the all of the factories so if your Firrestone Wilderness AT's like mine are not part of the recall (VNHL) at least you will know which factory they were made at.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hot/firestone/index.html

Another link that was interesting is the following link to a Excel spreadsheet listing all of the complaint Firestone issues.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hot/firestone/complaints.xls

With some data sorting, you can see how they came to there Decatur conclusion.

Jim,

Thanks for the link. I also have tires that are not being recalled but I still don't trust them. I feel as if I am stuck and so the Xplorer sits in my drive covered and resting.

I would go purchase new tires just for my piece of mind but I can't see spending $400 or so on tires that may be on the truck a very short time (until I get it lifted).

If the Trailmaster lift kit comes out on August 28 I will have that installed and then go with bigger tires. As for now I am stuck and waiting on Trailmaster to come through. But, if Trailmaster doesn't come through in a reasonable amount of time then I will go ahead and do the torsion bar twist.

But until that time the payments still have to be made on a truck that I cannot drive because of the lack of trust in the tires.

Sorry I just had to vent a little,
Alan

Just did the tire recall today. We were really pleased, the new tires are Goodyear Wrangler AT's. A much better tire in my opinion.

Don't have the right code, but dealer is going to replace anyway.

I took my '97 Explorer to Firestone last week to have the tires checked. My code on the AT's was W2. He said they would be okay. When I told my wife, she was very adament and she took it back and said she didn't care where they were made.......she didn't want them. Surprised me, but they put her on the list for new ones, with no hassle. Just thought you all would want to know.
