Tried socket from the working right side and did not work.

No, I am at work now but will check a few things thur evening.

i had the same exact problem. turns out the wire behind the column at the turn signal switch is too short. if you tilt the column a lot, it breaks. have fun taking the column piece off, you have to take off the lower part of the dash under the steering wheel first. soldier in a little extra wire and wrap well, and you are back in business.

Wow, Tony - thanks for the tip.

My left rear turn sig has been intermittent since a recent long trip when I adjusted the steering wheel down for the first time in about 6 years.

After replacing the bulb (no improvement) I was about to take it to the dealer when I saw your message. Adjusting it back cured the problem.

If you didn't live so far away I'd take you to lunch :-)

Cheers - LeeH

PS: Does the lower dashboard cover just pull off? I'd like to look at that wire but I don't want to break anything.

My brother-in-law's 2001 has had this problem for several months and I finally took a look at it this weekend. His left blinker and tail light didn't work and when he tilted the steering colum down the right blinker and tail light didn't work. I removed the plastic from the colum where the blinker lever and shift lever(bottom then top). I found broken wires at the connector that connects to the multifunction switch(blinker). This was caused by poor installation by Ford. There is not enough slack in the wires and the will break over time if you use the tilt function regularly. One wire broke with enough left to splice it. The other broke at the connector and when it tried to remove the connector from the multifuncrion switch the whole connector fell apart and all the wires came out. What a disaster. We are going to try to get Ford to repair it because it is clearly caused by poor design or assembly but if they won't we will probably hace to replace the wiring harness. I will guarantee that there are many 2001 Sport Trac's with this same problem.

I don't have a diagram. Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram to help me put the pins back in the connector?

Tony is the man

I had the same prob. After a slight strugle ( twist off the titl steering lever) getting the covers off the wire is on top and the issue was in plain sight. I just used a red connector and it was fixed. No shop time, no $$ out. I love this forum.
I have a loaded 2001 sport trac!
