97 explorer sport 4.0

Is it a 4x4 or 2WD??
Well everytime I goto a parts store and ask for a part I'm always asked "4x4?"
My explorer is a control trac and it says XL only...So I don't really know what to call it. I have 4x4 but it also says XL on the back, So what would I call it?? |

Perfectly understandable problem. XL, XLT, Limited, Eddie Bauer, are all Trim packages. They determine what colors, carpet, radio, etc options were available to you. AWD aka 4wd uses all 4 wheels to pull ALL the time, 4x4 aka 4wd means you can engage it when you want (But it's still 4x4 aka 4wd)...
