| Ham Radio - CB - Trail Communications I have found that fourwheeling and ham radio go hand in hand. Post any questions or comments about the great hobby of amateur radio here. Of course CB'ers are welcome also. Ray, AE6H and Joe, N1LVN both moderate this forum. |

I moved your thread to the CB and Ham Radio forum.
The body of your truck is blocking a good portion of your antenna when it's mounted on the bumper. The antenna uses your vehicle as a "ground plane". Let's say you have the antenna mounted on the right rear corner. With that mount, the best reception would occur off of the front left corner of the truck. The "dead spot" would be behind the antenna since there is no ground plane. Did you check the SWR with a meter? That must be done to tune the antenna for optimum performance. There are a bunch of threads about SWR in this forum. __________________ Rick Horwitz, AB7FH "Serious Exploration's" Admin Rick's '93/'98 Explorer "The Great Pumpkin" Dodge Dart 512 Resto/Race 10.29 @ 129 2004 Mustang Mach 1 2003 Dodge Ram/Cummins Dually |
