Busted!

Uh oh.....

Better watch what I type from now on. Just the thought of turning you two loose on the mall with me footing the bill could kill a guy. Good thing I spent all the money already.

I know how Rick felt when Char got on the board now

Good Luck Rod.

You think the thought of turning us loose in a mall is bad.. what about turning you two loose with a new set of 35' tires and a garage full of tools somehow between you guys it will turn into 2 new sets....I can just see Rods eyes now and all the ideas shooting through his head of how is going to get those 35's on. I promise you guys are a lot more dangerous than us. LOL

PS: Dont you worry Rob, Jackie will be on before you know it.

AHHHH MANNN!!!!

First my gaming chat rooms, then my Porno sites, and know the explorer forum. Geez I cant hide!

Just Kidding
Well yes the wheels have started to turn on how I'm gonna fit 35's on here. My concern isnt really how to get them on without rubbing, that can be done. My main concern is gears. I really cant shell out the extra money for that now, and would rather wait until I can get lockers and just do it at the same time. I'm just not sure how 35's would do on the 4.10 gears that I have right now. Another concern is I would like to get wider tires, and I hear that I would need 15" rims or something like that. So I might have to get new rims also. ohhh man what an addiction.
So how does all this sound to you Kel?

Huh?

Rod,

I called Mark at Offroad Warehouse to order the kit. He didn't know anything about the bumper brackets, said that the original brackets needed to be modified.

I was under the impression that you meant that they supplied different brackets in the kit that still had to be straightened?

He didn't seem to know anything about them. Am I nuts?

Thanks.

Joe

I saw the video of the install and it looked like they had to weld the bumpers. Rod will give you more information but I know that welding is involved.

Joe,

The kit did come WITH bumper brackets, they are necessary to raise the bumpers up the 3". The kit came with 2 for the front and 2 for the back. We just had to modify them a bit to make them work. If you look at my website, they are a goldish color. And it should give you a better idea of what we did to make them work. Of course the way we modified them isnt the only way to do it. We experiemented with them and tried several different ways, heating them up and straightening them(because they have a bend in them) worked for us.
I hope this helps,

Ahhaaaaa!

Mystery solved. They have 2 Marks, the one that knows about this kit is Mark Waite. It DOES come with the brackets, but he said it might be easier to fab new ones for the back rather than modify the ones that come with the kit....any thoughts on this? Do they just need to be straightend?

He also said that a few bolts either need to be swapped out or washers used as spacers. Do you recall which you did and which mounts they were?

Thanks.

Hmmmmm.

Thanks Rod, I just ordered the kit. I'm a tad concerned, though, as Mark said that the kit was a pain due to bolt placement, etc. and that it takes them a day and a half to do them......

Now I figured if it only took you guys 11 hours, then a decent shop oughta be able to do it much quicker. (No offense, it's just that they don't take beer/swim breaks!)

The guy at the shop I deal with said he thought 4 hours tops, any thoughts?

Joe,
Yaa i think the LIFT could be done in 4 hours, if the guy knows what hes doing or has done this before, no prob.
The thing that might take a little time is figuring a way to get the bumpers on. But other then that the lift is pretty straight forward, i think earlier posts on this thread should let you know what to look out for.
Good luck, and love to see some pics when your done.
Rod

Joseph,
Got mine done at Off Road warehouse and it took them about four hours..(charged me about $300 for the whole thing; 100 parts and 200 for a labor and this was two years ago, so i don't think anything's changed.

$300? That's a deal

Wonder what they charge now? 4 Wheel parts wanted $80 for the kit and $550 to install it. This is on my 94 and the kit is made for it. Shouldn't have to mod anything.

I'll probable start mine this weekend so it's ready for the Clayton run.

yeah, well if you're doing it in a shop with two, three guys working on it you can probably do it in four hours. My estimate is about 7-8 hours of labor. First of you have to get the bumpers off, take seats out, trim out and pray that all the bolts come out with no problems. I had to cut through three bolts and had a ton of problems with the one right over the gas tank. Lifting is no big deal. Later it might take you some time to fit the bumpers since these brackets don't come the way they suppose to. You have to drill second set of holes and enlarge the remaining ones to make it fit. I also had to notch the frame to fit the rear bumper correctly. I'm putting together a write-up on this since whatever I read just gives you general info and some just copied info off the instruction sheet that comes with. What I'm doing is writing the step by step write-up so you can do it with your eyes closed. Possible traps are also explained. If you give me a day or two I will finish it and post it on my site. Check it within the next couple of days. Should be there:

Rod,
How do you like the Hella's? Because my friend wrecked mine and PIAA's are too expensive for me and I want a better light than my 500's.

Cool Rod G.

Any problems with wire/cable/connecter/electrical binding or breakage?
I've got a 95 Sport and am in the middle of doing the lift. They sent bolts that look like they fit a 3" body lift rather than the 2" that I've got. I can either get all new bolts, or just go get the 3" kit. The reason I went with the 2" kit is that I did not want to have steering/bumper issues. I wanted to keep the bumpers relatively stock. Even with the 2" kit I'm going to have to relocate the bumpers (even thought the kit instructions say it is not necessary), so I might as well go with 3" blocks at this point. How's your steering?
Great pictures! Those are good enough to go in a manual!
Rick

Rick,
Nope not at all, just be sure after you lift it and before you start it, that all the hoses are out of the way from the belts, we learned the hard way.
Thanks for the compliments, let me know if I can be of any other help.
Rod

Andre...Great write up!

Ohh yaaa, the steering is fine also, works like a charm.

I'm getting used to driving lifted rig now. Wish I had 33's to throw on. Too bad I just bought these 31's a month ago. Steering still feels funny binding every half turn. No fix for that yet. I'm working on a custom rear bumper mod to fit a tow hook there and spare carrier. I'm still using stock bumper minus tow plate and top plastic part. Great base to build on. Front is non different. See, my rig is a Limited and Limiteds came with bigger bumper plastic cover up front, well, that was gone once I took my baby off road the very first time. It all looks so much different now. Stockers look kind of strange when they see my truck. Look at my page - there is a comparison before and after - looks good.

PS. On my lift I worked partially off your posts Rod, helped me a lot. I did more work with the lift going on. Took care of some of the cancer that started appearing.
