I searched, didn't really find what I was looking for, and I have also read BrooklynBay's speedo thread stickied in the transmission section. That being said, I still have a question.

I'm going to be going from stock tires and 3.73s to 33s and ultimately 4.56s.

From this link:

It's clear to me that I need to go from a 19 tooth gear to a 20 tooth gear to get it all back to normal once I have both 33s and 4.56s.

However, I'm not sure I'm going to be jumping to 4.56s right away. I have to see how my bank account looks, and if the truck even feels sluggish. It might be something I can deal with for a few months until I get my job back in the fall at college.

So basically, what I'm asking is what would be the optimal speedo gear to get the speedometer and the odometer (both work off the same gear, right?) correct with 33s and 3.73s?

Thanks in advance.

The best way to figure out what tooth count you need is to swap the tires on then drive it at 60 for a mile and time it. Go to a dealership, and tell them how far off it is. They should be able to tell you how many teeth to go to. EX. if while doing 60 it takes you 65 seconds to go the mile you need add a tooth. If it takes you 55 seconds subtract a tooth. Again if the guys at the parts desk are worth anything they should be able to tell you what tooth count just from how far off it is.

Portable GPS units are pretty expensive. I have one, but I don't think it gives MPH.

I just wanted to update this now that I've found the answer for anyone who has the same question and finds this thread. I had to move to the white 17 tooth speedo gear, down two teeth, to get my speeds back to normal with 33s and 3.73s. It's nearly perfect now, I think I'm roughly 1 MPH off (fast) at 65 MPH.

The gears can all be found on this site:

www.LowPriceGears.com

For very cheap ($8 shipped for each gear).
