They have started to evacuate people from Iola and Chanute.
Problem though--Iola and Chanute fire departments are all in Neodesha evacuating those people--

See...you should have gone with the snorkle kit! In all seriousness, I hope you stay above water. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.

To top it off-they are going to open the fall river dam.
More pics in a bit-

And it is still raining! 3" more since 3:00 pm
The bridge is about 2 blocks away-I see the police up there now with lights flashing.
I have to go out and get my son in a bit. The water on this side of the bridge looks to be about 3-4 feet deep now. Looks like we'll have a temporary lakefront property!
Here is the funny part-people here are treating this as entertainment. There has been more traffic on our street today than in the last week. They drive to the bridge-look, and turn around. We walked up to the bridge and met just about everyone in town. If a guy would have had a snack stand set up he would have cashed in--haha. I mean everyone was out walking around in the rain having a good ol time. Standing on the bridge with the water rushing inches below you, give the feeling you are moving--it's kind of cool.

Now--since the flood in 1951, they built this side up real high--
it is getting real close to cresting over--I think everyone is kind of looking at the river, and laughing in defiance. We'll see if it holds through the night.
To the west of the bridge is a lake about 2 miles wide. It was all corn last week.

Now I have a road closed sign in the street in front of my house!
I have watched about 30 vehicles go right past it, sink their headlights, and turn around--I'm waiting for a hydrolock. heh heh
good times!

If you look at the pic of my wife-over her shoulder is a porch to a house--
the water is lapping right there now--another few inches and they are getting wet-
all the grass you see in that picture is under water now-looking closer-the yellow "road closed" sign on the bridge-is now in front of my house--
All of that is now under water-the bridge is above still-

YES IT IS STILL RAINING!

I know when I was with the FD back in Florida, the city provided sandbags and we placed them around the houses that weren't flooded when a creek flooded. Anybody doing that or is it just keep your fingers crossed? Hope you get through this OK.

Thanx john you know that stuff travels down hill

Yeah it's pretty crazy here too, it has been dormant for about 32 hours now but just waiting for the bottom to drop out again, some of us here have seen 18" in a short period of time.

The flood gates are all open on the lakes, in fact thier draining of 600,000 cfw which in relation would be the equivelant of the whole state Rode Island being 1' under water.

The Colorado river is closed, and all the lakes except for Lake Bastrop (constant level lake), and lake Buchannan.

So all the party goers that flock to the lakes and rivers this time of year are screwed, several have been trapped and had to be recused and some have wound up as fatalities.

For this time of year we have been getting record rainfall.

Jeff -
