Installed the engine for the first time to make room for the headers and to fabricate mounts for the motor plate.

If you don't mind cutting up the car, fenderwells are the way to go. There's no issues at all with fitting around steering, suspension, etc...

I see that the headers are going through the wheel base. How would this work out with the inner wheel base covers getting hot? The heat would also be near the tires.

I think you mean wheel wells?

If so, the wheel wells are made of steel, not plastic like on the new cars You're also looking at a 2 dimensional photo which doesn't show the clearance around the tubes. They don't hit anywhere, and there is plenty of room.

You can see a mark on one of the header tubes from the tire rubbing against the primary tube at full lock. Turning radius is limited with these headers. However... the Hooker Super Competition headers have been run on this platform since the late '60s and are considered one of, if not the best off the shelf headers for the application.

Best part about the fenderwell headers is the amount of clearance you have around all your suspension components. Through the chassis headers are a nightmare with torsion bar suspensions, especially when you're running 2" primary tubes.

You are correct. I did mean the wheel well, and not the wheel base. I thought that the tires weren't on yet, so how did it make that mark on the header? If these headers have clearance issues, wouldn't it cause premature damage to the tires since they get very hot, and could burn a hole in the sidewall?

The sidewalls won't touch, it's the tread that contacts the tube. I bought the headers used, that's why the marks are already there. I plan on putting in steering limiters which will keep the tires from running into the tubes.

Maybe you could use header wrap (unless it will tear from the tire coming into contact with it? Would some sort of ceramic header coat paint be good for something like this?

They appear to be ceramic coated already to me.

They look very shiny, and smooth. I thought that ceramic coating looks dark, and has a rough texture?

No thread is safe.

Lookin good Rick. You should use those headers as the centerpiece on your table until the car is ready for them.

You could alter the wheelbase a little like this...
Probably a lot of work, but I like that look.

That's got a solid front axle and leaf springs up front Love the old school look, but not for me

As Jon said, the headers are already ceramic coated.
