As the title suggests I would like to know who would be up for some wheeling in South Eastern MA? I am planning a small trail ride in a primarily wooded area that is stocker friendly. Obstacles range from easy to moderate. Some trails are narrow with low hanging tree branches (so paint scratches are a possibility). The more difficult sections can have a foot+ of mud/water depending on weather conditions (many have go arounds). Currently the mud & water is very low so stock vehicles should have few problems (running boards maybe a clearance issue).

So if you're interested in attending post back with your vehicle, Off-Road experience and how much damage you're willing to take :p: Location specifics have been omitted to preserve the area. Details will be made available to club members who sign up for a run.

I will post a full list of Requirements, but for now each vehicle will need:

  • CB Radio
  • Front and Rear Tow Points
  • Fire Extinguisher (ABC)
  • Flash light
  • Water/dry food

As for group recovery equipment I carry a 40K lb tow strap, a 3 ton power puller hand winch, tree saver, chokers, "D" shackles, Highlift, axle and shovel. My buddy Jim will have an 8Klbs Milemarker winch and a 60" Highlift.

Well the trip could be anytime.. I hit the trails with my friend Jim @ least once a week :D I would venture to say the wheeling would be a few hours depending on which trails we hit and driver ability.

I would have thought there would have been a greater interest in some local wheeling. So far Jen is the only one to respond (thanks Jen, btw what kind of trails are you up for?)

Bueller...Bueller...anyone...anyone.

I hit the trails Sat night and took some pics and video.. I will try and upload them early this week.. As for a run the trails we'll hit will be based on the members that express interest in going (they are really not that bad). Ideally I would like another 1-2 rigs to start and see how things go. For the more adventurous I will also host a nighttime run which is always cool.

Please post back in this thread if your interested in going Off-Road along with the types of trails you want to hit.

No prob John. I don't know what my truck can handle yet so I know I wanna take it easy @ 1st. I will talk to the guys I've befriended here in CT that might wanna try some new trails & see what they think... They normally go on Saturdays sometimes on Sundays. I'll get back to you as soon as I know anything :)

:bsnicker:
My truck stays on pavement only

:bsnicker: ahh sounds like someone needs a trail rig :bsnicker:

That's ok Matt I'm sure one of us will let you ride shotgun

I would suggest you tag along on some of the local CT trail rides and see what they have to offer. In my experience its better for people new to off-roading to wheel close to home and gradually build confidence in their vehicle and driving ability. With some local trails and confidence under your belt then a road trip will be much more enjoyable.

John, sorry I didn't respond sooner... haven't had a chance to change my underwear lately let alone check the forums :mattmoon::thumbdwn:

I've been working pretty much everyday and I have flight lessons 4 days a week down in NewBedford, so lots of driving... I would LOVE to get on some actual trails, especially if they're legal, rather than chasing deer through the marsh at the airport. I'm pretty sick of getting stuck in the mud, then having to trek all the way down the runway (solo) to get the John Deere.

Starting in September I should be able to get out virtually every night. I realize thats quite a ways away, but 'tis reality at least for now. I'm trying to get as much work in as I can right now so I wont have to during school, and I'll be able to goof off some more.

I'd be up for some wheelin - I'm fairly new to it, my truck is all stock, but I dont have the requirements.

I'd have to grab a fire extingusher, those tow points (believe the back bumper has one stock point, attached to the frame), and the cb radio...was about to spend some cash on some new pro comp es3000 shocks, a safari light bar, and some sheet metal to make a front skid plate.

Welcome... Once you're ready post back..

Tow points are required because even though many obstacles have alternate go arounds you may just want to give one a try anyway ;) Trying to attach a tow strap or cable to a vehicle without a tow point is a pita (especially in mud) and can cause damage to the tow strap, cable, or your vehicle.

The CB has been a mainstay of all 4x4 clubs. It enables everyone to remain in contact without the need for everyone to keep getting out of their rigs to walk up the trail to see why the convoy stopped etc..

just bought a cb radio for 12 bucks off ebay today, gonna go grab a fire extinguisher probably today as well, and i'm gonna look into those tow points. Where can i buy those, walmart?

You should be able to pickup tow hooks at autopart stores, Junkyards etc.. AutoZone Tow hook... for a fire extinguisher look for one marked ABC as it is rated for most types of fires.

Last Saturday I was able to install an Aussie locker in my 8.8 my the help of my buddy Jim. We then met up with a new wheeling buddy Jay whom Jim met a the Brockton Fair Mud bog a few weeks back (I have lots of video to upload). We then went on a 2hr+ ride to test my locker and show Jay around. The locker worked great and I was able to pick harder lines and climb hills that I had to otherwise avoid. Jay was fine behind the wheel of his Cherokee and both Nancy and Angelia (Jim's wife) had quality time in the driver's seat..

Hey guys (and gals) I am new to the area and new to the forum. As of right now i have 2 stock 97 expy's mines a sport and it seems to sit real low. I am looking in the the TT and Shackle and maybe a heper spring or new 4dr leaves(all of which i found the info on this site only!) I was bummed because i had to leave PA and my 87 Cherokee trailer rig but now i am hoping to have some fun up here with my Expy. I will have to put some work into the cb tow hooks fire exstingusher and stuff but i would love to hook up sometime and go wheelin. I am up near Salem NH so i might be a bit aways from you guys but i will work something out!
Thanks for all the info as well!
