Ford Ranger A/C Question

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger 4x4 4cyl 5spd. When I first start the truck up and turn the air on it seems to be getting cold, but a couple minutes down the road it stops getting cool for just about 30 seconds. Then it acts normal (ice cold) for the rest of the trip. Is this normal? Thanks.
