A/C Question

I have a 97 Ranger and noticed about a year after i bought her used the compressor was switching off and on, it wouldn't spin. i know that is a sign of low refrigerant. but i have no idea, this air conditioning is new to me, my last car was a mustang and had none. how do i refill, there are 2 connects, high and low and i have no idea which is what and if i am going to kill myself messing with it. what can i do?

97 has an r134A system, you can easily refill it with item purchased at a local parts place. You should do a pressure test on the system first, because the switch off may be caused by a blockage (over pressure). In this case adding coolant is the wrong thing to do. Chances are though that you are correct and it is simply low.
