Fired her up at 3:30 my time today-and it started right up like nothing happened-

Now I'm charging the battery a bit-and I'll adjust the idle and TPS, flush the cooling system, change the oil last. I always change the oil after doing any work like this.
All that is left after that is the fan and shroud Then to the car wash for a scrub down.

I got's 3/4 tank of gas-and an urge to cruise-

<<<tail between legs

Haha--my maf wasn't connected to the Maf tuner (signal raper) harness--

After running it over and over saying "c'mon baby give me a code!" --nothing-
no code whatsoever-friggin mafs ---they can really mess with your head-

I was so intent on looking at the 02 sensor data-that I completely forgot about a series of green lights on the black box which are supposed to illuminate when the key is switched on. I knew something wasn't quite right, but it took awhile-
the black box was dead. Might help if it was plugged in--

Anyhow--
now I'm going off for a cruise. I need to hit the carwash BAD!

Well you fixed it without too much trouble or cost, that's most important.

LOL, I forgot to plug my MAF in last time I had the CAI out, back when I was trying to find my 20mph issue. It took me probably an hour to figure out what it wouldn't idle.

Umm-you aren't kidding!

Oh Man! You guys--I don't know what I did-but either the re-adjustment of the valves-or the new air intake-or the fact that I changed the eccentric action of the throttle, and can now actually get a WOT but MAN!!
Wow!
I mean WOW-this thing is running really good right now-and the throttle response is way better than it ever was-

Vacuum gauge reads 16hg at 957 RPM idle-not too shabby

Now That it is verified to be running right, it's time to switch the MAF over to the lightning MAF and tune it up--

I can't wait too long on this.As I suspected I would,I'm getting a ping at WOT, which means the PCM isn't commanding-or cannot command enough fuel delivery.
The stock tune might be able to correct for this-but it would take it several "learning" attempts-which would surely mean curtains for my pistons at these levels.

I'll need to keep my foot out of it for now.

Well, keep going- get this all figured out. That way when I rebuild mine, it will be a matter of just buying the right parts

mines runs over 10-1 rich at WOT on stock tune when I floored it to run 0-60, it never pinged with 87 octane and ran 5.1 sec in the rain , I thought mine would of ran lean/stoich and pinged for sure

Excellent Jon, explain the tuning at home as you go. James made it sound very reasonable to do yourself. I need to hunt for a laptop soon myself.

Ok
The shakedown runs have been completed-
A good baseline burnout-then the next step

This seems to be turning into a joke at my expense.
I try real hard-and to be honest this stuff is very difficult for me.

friggin coolant leak!!! Up in the oil cooler area-
Need to pull the fan and shroud to even have a chance of seeing it.
Oil cooler? Water pump? timing cover? intake gasket? heck I don't know.

Now--I could have lied and said all is good-don't laugh at me please. Laugh with me if I can.

The leak was small-replacing the lower hose seemed to fix it-but it has grown. At first it was dripping down the hose. I'm hoping the down time corroded the oil cooler--that would be easier to deal with than a new lower intake gasket--
But I did have oil pump lube in the coolant--maybe not enough?
grrr.

Jon, I suggest checking your coolant rail on the top passenger side of the engine. It could be the two nipples there or maybe even the threads itself that goes into the lower mani.

Thanks Rob!

This one isn't good--

The leak sprays onto the oil cooler-from right above----ummmm

How did I blow a head gasket just like that?
I need to remove the driver side accessory bracket to see for sure-It "could" be the water pump housing gasket, or, maybe the lower intake but it looks to be sparaying from a lower position--

this may be a bit--I have head studs. Anyone know what that means?

To top it off-
Our oldest child ( my stepdaughter) is due to have a baby any day-in fact Thursday they induce if she doesn't. She just called to say her stomach is moving funny--

I could really use a beer right now.

You just can't catch a break can you? I'm sorry I can't offer any mechanical advice, but unfortunately all I can do is wish you the best of luck

Ok
I have the ac-power steering bracket away from the head-and can see a puddle of coolant. There is a small valley about 1 inch to the right of the cam position sensor-right at the head to intake surface-
the water pump housing is there also-

I must assume at this point I messed up the silicone on the front seal of the lower intake. I can see it squished out real good all along the edge-but cannot see under the lip surrounding the Cam sensor-which is right above the puddle.
The head to block area looks good --I hope--

Problem is-with the accessory bracket removed from the head,a pressure test wouldn't work.one of the bolt holes is in the coolant.
I need the bracket away so I can see that spot.

You know this means WAR!!

OK-
I was out in the driveway fighting this-getting ready to tear it down.
From the neighbor's garage across the alley-I hear my name a few times, along with "still leaking, and water dripping"
hmmm-somethings up.

My neighbor comes over--"what you doin' to it now?"

I tell him of my plight-he chuckles a bit-
"check your water pump bolts"

You son of a bitch!!!
You see, we have access to each others stuff--he's a biker-truck driver with roommates, and we share tool resources sometimes.

"We were going to let you go another hour-but I couldn't stand it--"
He said.

The far right water pump stud was the leaker-
I pulled them one by one and added new thread sealer-all seems tight now.

Except for one thing--
I need payback ideas-----like I said-I have access to their garage----
