Bad fuel pressure regulator signs...

I have noticed that everynow and then my explorer has a episode of hard starting. It seems like a cylinder might be loading up and it takes a bit to get it cleared out. Once the motor is running it's a smooth 800 rpm's with no missing what's so ever. I have replaced all plugs and wires. I doubt that it would be a fuel pump due to it's only when starting. Has anybody replaced the FPR? If so what kind of symptoms could I expect with one going bad?

Did you monitor fuel pressures? Hard starting as a first guess could be the Idle air control valve.

Haven't monitored the pressures but I replaced the IACV this past summer. Hope it hasn't died already.

They normally don't go that fast. Check all your vacuum lines, I'm not sure how your exact fuel system is run but i know on mine there are two vacuum lines that run to my fuel pressure regulator, if those are borken or leaking then that could be a problem.

If thats all fine, id then try and clean your IAC, I try and clean mine monthly.

Also, don't throw out that it could be a your PFE sensor for your EGR system. If its bad, it will load the cylinders up full of EGR gas and cause a rough idle.

Sometimes the FPR diaphrgm will leak fuel into the vacuum line--check the line for a fuel smell, raw fuel.
