Talking S So My wife dropped her Laptop! Yeah for me!

So I bought my wife this nice Toshiba Tablet laptop a few years ago, and today she knocked it over and it broke the screen. So I started looking around at replacement screens, and I'm looking at $350-$400 bucks! So at that, I think I'm going to look at getting a new laptop for her.

On the good side, I can now use the laptop for the truck on my stic-puter project

Does it have a port for connecting an external monitor?

x2 -- hook up an external monitor to it, and on bootup, force it to display on the external and you can retrieve your data.

I once thought that it might be possible to hack a digital picture frame. Is that an option for you or maybe a screen which is used in mobile video?

Is there a way to remove the screen from the computer itself and the unit (computer) still function properly? That would be cool

Not really because, the on switch is on the screen part, butttt because it's a tablet, I just filp the screen like a clipboard, and I have access to the on switch, and the keyboard is protected I have a small usb keyboard and the laptop has no internal optical drive. So I can run the small external dvd drive to a more convienet spot

in a stroke of luck...We turned the laptop on today and the screen worked It looks like the cracks are only in the protective screen and not the LCD. Only issues is, there is a piece of the latch stuck in between the two I plan to just leave it. So we are just using it as is, and take note that it could stop at any time again.

I was considering the same thing in my Explorer Steve, I have an old laptop that I was going to secure under my seat and run my gps and other things on a screen. Dustin pointed out that it would be toast in no time from dirt and shock, he said in Iraq the Tough Book was the only answer and regular laptops would take a beating in the HumV

Sure SHE did. On a side note if u still going to put it in the ex you can take the screen of and find the wire loom of it cut off the few to the screen and just keep the switch hooked up.

I was told the same thing. The older Panasonics show up on craigslist from time to time. My thoughts as well were that it would work perfect for a carputer, just not sure if the older ones have video out for hooking up an external screen.
