So last (01/29/2008) month I bought a 2001 sport trac.
the main problems were the door latch - didn't notice when I bought except the exterior handle was loose
fixed that cheaply - see thread : http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207373
so the next problem was:
when I started the truck before buying it, it started after second attempt.
didn't really think about it.
whenever the truck sat for half an hour or more it took a long time cranking to start. 3 hours of sitting usually netted about 30 - 40 seconds of cranking in 7 - 10 second intervals.
Every morning after sitting overnight (even in -30 deg. celcius weather) parked on the street, not plugged in, the truck started within 1 second of cranking.
I had concluded it may be flooding the motor, (possibly leaky injectors), and ran seafoam, and concentrated fuel injector cleaner through the motor.
There was no improvement.
Reading posts thinking it may be the IAC valve, I cleaned the valve with non-residue contact cleaner.
No improvement. During IAC cleaning I took off the Hose off the Throttle body, and opened the butterfly valve. It was misty inside and could hear slight hissing sound.
**** leaky injectors maybe??????
Managed to read the part# off the side of the injector without taking it apart.
Ordered re-built injectors from http://injectors4u.com
received injectors yesterday, bought new upper intake manifold gasket today $17, and changed the injectors (all 6).
pressurized fuel rail, started truck up, let it stabilize (idle), and turned off.
took off the throttle body hose, opened butterfly, and listened for noise.....silence.
The truck now consistently starts up within half a second of cranking, so far with sitting half an hour and sitting 1 hour.
Injectors were $25 each and $30 for shipping to Canada, $15 for duty
so about $215 total + my time, the truck runs great now.
yay
Now the modding begins....
