I'm thinking about putting a flame thrower kit on after i get dual exhaust.
not one of the ones that dump gas through the engine, those are crap but i think ill plumb something else directly into the exhaust. maybe propane. maybe nitrous but thats getting expensive.

I don,t want to use gas cause id have to rob from my pump or plumb a new one and thats too much trouble.

what do you guys think?

I have seen it done with propane.....

It looked sweet. Spark plug and a inlet for the fuel and it works.

how did they store it?
i cant see having a grill tank in the back seat!

i thought maybe a nitrous tank filled with propane but i dont know if thats an approved container;)

No man they make smaller tanks. Like for portable camping grills and other things that are smaller and can be hid easily.

oh yeah maybe those little green stove cans then when i run out just stop by wallmart and swap'em!

how do you think i should power the spark?

Just a push button to a cheap coil to the plugs or will I need two coils?

How close would It have to be
to the end of the tail pipes I imagine there ain't much oxy in the exhaust to burn with.

Yeah, those green camping can's would work. But how are you going to turn the bottle on and off? or keep the gas from being released until the spark plug is firing? You don't want to just crank the propane and have it spit out gas until you run around, hop in, and hit the spark. Maybe a nitrous remote bottle opener system? IDK
BTW, you could hide the tank perfectly in the read driver's side. Take out the storage tank for the rear washer fluid and you have tons of room, and an easy access panel.

I was advised one time that they can do serious damage to the cats and ur exhaust system cuz i thought it'd be cool too. Not sure to b honest but i trust my source

That is with a system that runs the engine extremely rich, in order to ignite the exhaust gas. We were discussing a system in which propane in being injected into the exhaust system after the cat, so it couldn't have any effect on the cat. It may burn the paint on the back side of your truck though

yeah I will have to be careful with the paint. But it will
be a dual rear exit system and I'll make sure they leave enough pipe out the back to be clear.

If I can adapt a nitrous remote turn on that would be perfect then a solenoid in the gas Line will keep it contained till a hit the spark.

Thats a good idea about the washer fluid compartment but I still use the rear washer fairly often and the rest of the room inthere is taken up by the jack and a spare quart of royal purple. but i may still be able to fit one in there ill have to take a look.

About the spark, should I just use and old fashioned induction spark coil like from back in the day? I think that would be easiest.

Also if anybody has any alternative fuel ideas I'd like to here em.
My first thought was nitrous oxide but the I remembered its not acually flamable it just provide more oxygen for combustion.

Yeah thats the kit that you get from autolok or eatmyflames those are complete rubbish. They cut the spark timing so your engines inertia is pumping raw gas through which then of course proceeds to foul your spark plugs and valve seats not to mention stripping the oil of your cylinder walls and contaminating what it doesn't strip off. Then on its way out it plugs your cats and fouls your o2 sensor for no extra charge!:thumbdwn:

Just go to show people will sell
you anything as long as it makes them money.

That, or you may want to look into using an igniter from a gas grill. They are cheap, and you don't need a big power source to cause the spark.

I have wanted to do this for so long... If you figure it all out, we need lots of pics and a full write up :D

by the way nice x man! I like the custom snorkel!
on your cardomain you mention a big 3 wire upgrade what are you talking about?

"not one of the ones that dump gas through the engine, those are crap"
Interesting comment there Seth!, I've been throwing fire for 18 years with this truck, and it's won every flamethrower show it's been entered in except for one.... when I ran out of gas.. it uses 3+ gallons per minute.......I started as same as you.. wanting....... now 18 years later I run the biggest flamethrower show in the country, to save you some time, aggravation and your hard earned money ,here are some tips..... first..the add on flame kits for FI are junk...scrawny little fire pops.........2nd..there are ways, but they are very dangerous, and not only to you but to those around you, propane is the safest, and most impressive, I don't run it myself, but some of my friends do, and I still beat them with my "crappy" carb and plain old gas... 18 years of time and a flame system that cost me a total of 40 bucks has put this old Ford truck among the best in the nation.......the best advise I can give you is this: If you want to impress kiddies at the mall, get the kit, if you want to shoot fire with others.. listen to them, they will tell you how.... but if you want to whip their butts, and hand it back to them on a silver platter...... figure it out for yourself..... and don't tell a sole how you do it!! oh, and if you want to see some real fire, come to the Ducktail Rod & custom show the last weekend in sept. in Gas City Indiana.......I'll introduce you to some of my friends!....Steve

nice truck man and damn those pipes are big!
when I say crap I don't mean they don't work. They work very well. What were talking about is the fact that they also work very well at ruining a daily driver.

As for your truck, I'm sure that if
You had cats you've pulled them a long time ago. So nothing to plug.
You said it was carbourated so you dont have an o2 sensor to foul.
its also not your daily driver I imagine so gas milage and horse power probly dont mean much.

My point is they are crap because autolok and the others sell em saying no engine damage. Then with the disclaimer in the fine print saying "were not responsible".

Anyway good luck at the show. I want to come but its too far away let me know when you set one up in oklahoma!

Thanks Seth,
The Big 3 upgrade is replacing the wires from the alt to the + battery terminal, the engine ground to the frame, and the engine ground to the - battery terminal, all with big gauge wire. The stock wires can't really handle all the power of the 200 amp alt, and it will improve electronics across the board even with a stock amp if you have a lot of accessories wired up.

Voodoo,
That thing looks sweet. Out of curiosity what diameter are those pipes?

little x..these are 10"X37".

Seth, this was my daily driver till my boy got killed in 05, and for the last 2 summers it's been sitting for the most part, been to a few shows, maybe a half dozen or so,that's why it looks kinda funky.... but i'm always at the Ducktail, have been every year since it started......the truck has a bored 10.5 to 1, 390, single plane intake, crane cam, port and polish by me, along with a few other little odds and ends, but no headers, gets about 15mpg now, mostly due to the soft compound 295 hoosiers I'm running.....but if I'd change the tires and tweak the carb a little It will do a little over 20mpg. my best was to pigeon forge when it got 25... not too shabby for an old truck...But I understand what your saying, it is hard on the engines, if it were me and I had FI, I'd run propane.. easy, clean, and relatively safe as far as flamethrowers go , just make sure all hose connections are sealed and secure, and be very very careful!, it will suprise you how many idiots are out there, some will have no sense at all!!!...................Steve
