^^more info on the car!
Here's my trailer. It's a 1996 Jayco Eagle 10 popup camper. It tows pretty well- going up some mountains at 8,000+ feet, the SOHC motor feels a little asthmatic. Just bought it this spring and have taken it on 5 camping trips this year so far. It's fun. __________________ 1997 XLT SOHC Auto 4wd 132,000 miles Explorer registry Also in the garage: 2012 Escape Limited 4wd V6 auto AND 2004 Saturn VUE 4 cylinder 5 speed Colorado 4x4 Adventures |

Car is a '92 325i with "M" bumpers. Powered by a Chevrolet LS1 350ci engine and t-56 6 speed out of a '99 camaro. I drive the car almost every day, all the gauges and A/C are fully functional and it gets 25+ MPG!!! I have been 12.2@114 so far and I feel it still has an 11 second pass in it as the weather cools off.

2000 Jayco Eagle 12 UDST pop up camper. 3,000 lbs GVWR.
2TimingTom, Don't feel too bad, My Expedition with the 5.4 liter struggles above 8,000 feet. At 8,900 feet pulling a 10% grade I was floored going 35 mph. No horsepower at those elevations. Pulling with the Expedition here. ![]() Set up camping here. ![]() Inside pic.

Post 200mi trip - 10mpg; Mostly 65mph, no problem running up to 70mph. RV center added the WD hitch, since the trailer is only 3k lbs, some say you don't need it, but it supposed to be a lot better with while on the highway. Its a pain to setup, once i get there if i have to move it i'll be using the std hitch. __________________ Jim 2010 Mercury Mountaineer Premier, V8 AWD, 15k 2010 Sport Trac Limited, V8 4WD, 55k 2004 EB Quad Buckets V8 AWD, 105k Last edited by jrford; 09-04-2012 at 08:41 AM. |

3.55 to 4.56. Not exactly cheap ($850 installed), but it made a world of difference. And nice Jayco. Before I read the description I recognized it as a Jayco. We were talking this weekend about maybe upgrading to some kind of travel traveler. __________________ 1997 XLT SOHC Auto 4wd 132,000 miles Explorer registry Also in the garage: 2012 Escape Limited 4wd V6 auto AND 2004 Saturn VUE 4 cylinder 5 speed Colorado 4x4 Adventures |

Our 16' 1963 (Model 16S) Yellowstone and the 95 Quest we used to tow it with. The Quest got totaled a few years ago and I have been without a tow vehicle until last Friday when I picked up my 1999 Explorer.
Believe it or not, we towed the trailer with the Quest (carefully) for many years with regular hitch and no brakes. Then we finally got a proper 7 way connection on the trailer and van and had P3 brake control installed in the Quest along with a weight distributing hitch. We then took a trip out to MI for the annual Tin Can Tourist Vintage RV Rally. After the Quest was totaled, I salvaged the P3 and will have it installed in the Explorer. Too bad the 1999 Explorer is not pre-harnessed for the brake controller. I'm sure towing the Yellowstone with a 5.0 L V8 Explorer will be cake compared to the V6 FWD Quest. 1963 Brochure: http://www.vintage-yellowstone.com/P...20Brochure.pdf
