Question odometer on 1996 x sport

whats goin on ppl..
well i was originally supposed to buy a 99 x sport and wound up not getting it because some one else came with a better offer but that didnt stop me from getting an x sport.. so boom.. i just bought a 96 sport for $1800 with only 2 problems that i wanna fix as fast as possible..
one is that the passenger window wont go down, i dont think it would be too much trouble with getting that fixed right?
& two is that odometer isnt working.. it reads 65,xxx miles but the guy said that it hasnt worked for awhile so he cant assure me that there aren't too many miles on this truck. it runs great i must admit but now i need to get it inspected..
do you think that there will be a problem with this truck passing inspection with the odometer not working? & do you have any advice or suggestions on how to or where to get my odometer fixed? im on long island .. let me know.. thanks ya'll..

Welcome to the forum

The odometer is motor driven right at the instrument cluster-
usually a small worm gear-or driven gear breaks causing this problem

use this thread to access the instrument cluster

For the windows, there are some power window relays near the gas pedal-

also-check all of the fuses,

try opening the door a bit-move the door around and see if the wndow operates intermittently. This would indicate a wiring problem

OK
first-you need to note the position of the needles when you turn the key on-after the truck has sat all night. Be sure it is cold.

then, once you remove the cluster-

you'll need to dis assemble it. It will take a while, just be patient.
You'll need to get behind the odometer-and gain access to the small gears driving it. You will know it when you see it.

to remove the needles-wrap fishing line around the center near the shaft, making a loop. This way you can get a pulling action from two sides.
When you complete the repair, leave the clear window off-plug the cluster in and switch the key on. Install the needles in the positions you noted.

Or--
you can look on ebay for another cluster--

I have no idea how you'd get the little gears without another cluster anyway
