How to: Wheel, Tire, and Lift Sizes...

Prefix for threads which are instructional.
...This is a compilation of info and links I have found very useful on this site, including items I have learned over the years...Just my favorite links to the noted subject's...:D

...The wheel size does not make the tire rub...The tire and backspacing cause/eliminate this...;)

...The preferred size wheel for the Explorer and Ranger is, 15"x8" 5-4.5 with 3.75 Backspacing...You can fit up to a 12.50" wide tire on this wheel..

...If you look at the tire size and lift charts here, they will give you the correct amount of lift needed for minimal, to no rubbing with the stock size wheels,(15"-16" tall)...A 15x10 wheel basically will give you a deeper dished wheel and usually, the back spacing size they come with will cause the tire to rub more on your front fenders...

...For offroading, it is more likely to walk a tire off of a 15x10 wheel than it is a 15x8 wheel...Also, the 15x10 wheel is not protected from rocks and such, as it is now closer to the outer edge of the tire...:D

tires

I want to run 33x12.5x15 on 10" wheels or settle for 32x11.5x15 on 8" wheels (procomp M/T's) even if I need wheel spacers.. Want 3" suspension lift and cut out flares (any recomendations from other trucks since we are limited) I don't mind cutting up the body. I also have rears out of a ' 76 bronco. Should I use them with coils up front or stick with the TTB in my 92 for a better ride. The 44 up front and 9" rear would be great and srtonger but not sure if they would be too narrow or not. This is my first small 4 wheeler any help with engine mods, 4.0, and susp. would be great with gas at $4.26 here the big rigs are out. Was going to go with the jeep cherokee 4 dr but I am a ford/mazda man at heart. Thank you for any help and input. The tranny will be pulled soon as it is now junk (thats how I got the truck for free) and the body and inside are in awesome shape (hopefully not for long)...Thanks

.....It is difficult to understand what you are typing...For most if not all of your tire, wheel, and spacer questions, the answers are in post #1...;)

...For your axle and engine mod questions, this will be of great help...:D

What is it with the f-150 coil sprong seats when putting in a lift? Does this help???

...Please read the threads first, thanks...

I have been

I have been searching this sight for several days and cannot find what I am loooking for and cannot get anywhere on why people do things. I have many good parts use of a good junkyard and was looking for a little help as the project starts soon. I might have been better off with a jeep with all the parts I have. I was just looking for a little help thats all and thought an explorer would be neat and I don't mind cutting the wheel wells out but can't find flares to cover the tires. I remember a time when 4 wheelers where happy to share info now it seems like things are kept silent. I will try yhr links you gave me but still have found nothing but will keep looking. Thank you for your time..

Good work compiling this list! I've added it to # 73 in my list of useful threads.

...I just added a couple more useful links to the mix...;)

It'd be nice if someone could add some info for those of us with the 16in wheel option.

...Do you know of reason that the above tire information will not work with 16" wheels???...

...It also works for 17" wheels...;)

Good information you have compiled! I vote this as a good helpful sticky. Plus, would cut down on a lot of unneeded threads...:shifty_ey

...Thanks Charlie...:D

...I'm not finished with it yet and I can use some help.....Right now I am looking for a "Gear Chart" on this forum only...I know there is a chart with gear/tire size but I can't find it...:shifty_ey

...I still need an E.F. link to a good tire/gear chart...:dunno:

...Thanks, but thats not the one I am looking for..(I already have that great conversion calc. listed above...

..Froader, I believe, posted a tire/gear graph chart pic that I really liked...There are a couple versions but there was one I really liked...It doesn't get used all that much but it is a great simple graph..:D

...I believe that is the one, but is missing the color info and you can't read the info...:(

...I think we have a winner...That will work, and now it is included in the list...

...Thank you very much...:D
