Man, I really did enjoy this-we need to do more of this kind of thing. Overcome and conquer. HA ha.

Now,
anyone know where I could get a passenger (right) 31 spline axle, a dust shield and caliper bracket for a 8.8 rear? I could sure use them.

Anytime it'll still be fun even though we all know the outcome. I really enjoyed it too, it was nice to get away from everything and turn some wrenches, and we even learned some things that we hadn't planned on learning, I just hope we don't have to use it again after we get an axle put together for you.

So you're not going to lift now? I'm really thinking I should have left mine stock or lowered it now.

No, I really wanted to lift it, but I don't think a lifted truck would get along with my lead foot, I would do something stupid and roll it over.

I've got an intact 8.8 rear end that needs bearings. I swapped it out with a $100 junk-yard axle. I'm just not sure if I am going to get the bearings replaced and put the original back in or not. In either case, I'll have a spare. I'm not sure the new one is better than the old, but it's not leaking, and the bearing isn't *as* bad. BTW, I pulled it and replaced it by myself. I don't know why you guys had so much trouble.

No he just ignores me, we've asked him to ship replacement parts to us, and he refuses to do it, he thinks that we need to come there in person it's ridiculous to have to drive for an hour and a half to get a couple of pieces that could be shipped pretty easily. The whole deal really makes me think twice about dealing with any vendor on this forum after the way I've been treated

i would tell him that you would drive there on one condition. that in addition he pays your costs (time, gas). the part i have was not tested. they told me to send it back, i will do that, ONLY if they pay the shipping costs. i don't know why i have to pay for there mistake. i just opened a dispute with paypal. the sad thing is i have got lots of things off ebay, and other forums, as well as sold i lots of things. this is the first thing that i have ever got from here, and even supported a forum vendor, and this is the thanks we get! geez!

Yeah there's no reason you should have to pay shipping any other online retailer I've dealt with has paid for return shipping on defective items. He's made it perfectly clear that all he cares about is the money, and that he has no respect for his customers. At least you can open the dispute with paypal, we had a cash deal since I picked it up in person Also you should post your problems in his transaction feedback thread let's not pollute this thread anymore.

Evidently, the guy doesn't know how to stay in business. All the things I've heard could have been solved so easy. Oh well, what goes around comes around.

Oh
I need to start a new thread or sumthun?

Actually, there will be a continuation of this thread, and another project thread I have all been waiting for--

Hopefully the multi tasking will go smoother this time.

How much cheaper is it to swap axles vs installing gears labor/parts wise.

It's a lot cheaper. It was $350 for the rear axle, and about $100 for the front diff, plus another $150 or so in bearings, seals and other odds and ends parts. Are you planning on lifting your explorer? What size tires are you wanting to go to? I wouldn't really recommend going to 4.10's unless you plan on going bigger than your current 31's

I'm sticking with 31's for now, I have 3.73LS.. I want my torque back. Rear driver's side bearing is going out anyways which sparked this idea.......

I wish you were closer, I'd sell you my 4.10's. I'll swap eventually, that's my work truck.

Honestly If I were you I'd spend my money on headers before I put gears in.
