Thats a low flow code-
could be just plugged up, or maybe even a leak? Is the egr tube crakcked? to you have the tick tick-gurgle old engine sound?

You might have a cracked egr tube-which would cut the flow of egr to the dpfe sensor, giving a po401 and an exhaust leak noise-
this tick gets worse as the truck warms up, and when giving it gas, like going up a hill. Yes? You might even listen in that area, while someone gives it a bit of gas. I'll bet you'll see something then.
Your truck should have the strnger cast manifolds, but i would be sure all the bolts are present, and tightened. I have seen 2 so far with missing bolts.

Any exhaust leak on the passenger side of 97-01 V8 will also be an egr leak
egr valve rarely go bad, but they do get plugged up-

however, the egr tubes on these crack left and right.

The best thing to do is get the air box -and coolant reservoir thingy out of the way. Then you can get the tube off.

It's about 65.00 at the stealership.

Found the EGR valve at auto zone for $46 it was a nightmare to get off, not quite as bad going back on. It did not fix the problem.

Every EGR problem I have personally seen the problem has been the DPFE.
