US '08 XLT 4X2 Mods

I have a 2008 XLT 4X2. I was wondering what I can do to it to make it more off road capable (I know it is not 4X4 which really takes away, but I am not talking anything serious at all. Just a few mods to make it a little more capable.)

I also have another question....

If you buy a new 2008 XLT 4X4, how capable off road is it stock? And what would you do to it to make it the ideal off road vehicle?

Thanks,

Robert
